NOTE!: The fate of the development of this game is being decided by Ludichris1 and any helpful onlookers. Please see most recent posts.

I am currently in development of my first game, a shooting game called [Tom Clancy's] Splinter Cell
. Development was started Sunday, July 5. I have acquired the majority of the media off the internet, and made a few 'edits.' In this game, you have to survive the whole level, and capture the boss. You get to shoot the enemy with your gun. There are two enemies: one with a handgun, the other a machine gun. The enemies attack you from both sides. I'm doing my best to make everything the same style.
THE first dev demo is OUT NOW!! :: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Ludichris1/600335
(I didn't do all those stuff yet though... I couldn't wait ANY longer!! lol
DEVELOPMENT NOTES (updated everyday hopefully):
1. (JULY 5 - 6) I completed the title screen today, but I still need to fix the subtitle bug
.
2. (JULY 6) The briefing screen is finished. The waiting time to read the text is 18 seconds; hope you can read the whole thing within that time
!
3. (JULY 6) I have just begun on the in-game part. The music and background have been placed, and a short player animation set down. That's all for today!
4. (JULY 7) Finally the bug has been fixed! All I had to do was put the 'show' block at the beginning of the control block! Silly me. Though it doesn't make sense because I don't remember ever putting a 'hide' block in the script. Oh well
5. (JULY 7) I finally uploaded some screenies; hope you like!
6. (JULY 7) I almost got the movement right, but I'm stuck on the movement animations. And I can't figure out how to make the health meter, a visible variable, disappear when you press the green flag icon, and appear when I broadcast that "player is alive". Can someone help me on this?
7. (JULY 8) W00t! I think... Anyway, I found out how to make the health meter invisible at the beginning
.
8. (JULY 8) You, the player, can move left and right now with an animation, but just the 'idle' animation; Not the 'walking' animation. Still at least the character is breathing! I also fixed up the health coins (I might change it to something else) to where if you have 100hp, it doesn't work and makes a 'Lazer1' sound, while if you have less than 100hp, it makes a 'Zoop' sound and you gain 5hp (might be subject to change).
9. (JULY 8) Oh yeah I made the bullets! I might change the sprite though. But the two problems are that: First, it doesn't appear where the gun is. But it DOES appear where the player is located, and where the player is aiming. Secondly, is that I don't know how to make an infinite amount of bullets, (for example two bullets right after the other in the same direction), AND with a slower frequency (so that your handgun doesn't become an ultra machine gun. I might need some help here.
10. (JULY 9) I did the best I could and now the bullets are in the right spot
! But there's still the bullet frequency and infinity thinggummy.
11. (JULY 9) Oh and I changed the health coin into a HP packet. I still haven't fixed the movement though. It's harder than you think, especially with animations going on. I think I will finish this in a much LATER version.
12. (JULY 10) The enemy sprites I was going to originally use aren't very big. I will have to resize them several times (each FRAME 1by1!). I DESPERATELY tried finding Splinter Cell enemy sprites, or anything of the sort, but to no avail. I will just have to stick with Metal Slug sprites...
13. (JULY 10) I've put down an enemy and its bullet hurt you, just as your bullets hurt him, BUT!!!:
* Both bullets do not follow there targets.
* When the enemy dies, it disappears, but doesn't stop shooting bullets, and making the gun sound.
* Enemy needs to face the player wherever the player is.
Besides that, to finish making the game, I need to:
* The game over procedure.
* The amount of enemies and attacking you from different spots.
* After enemies are defeated, the boss comes out and walks towards you.
* Player thinks "press 'W' to knock 'im out!". You press W which does an animation, plays a sound, and the enemy falls down unconscious.
* Then finally the win game procedure.

Post A Reply
If you do not post a reply,
I will give a sigh;
And maybe even cry,
If my game, Splinter Cell,
Will be another project to die,
In the lost chasms of this website;
But even in spite,
Of this whole demise,
You will see the game again;
To a place where unused games go,
Where projects roam to and fro,
Away from all the neglect and accusations,
Away from the rejection infection,
You will see the game again;
In the far away Scratch Heavan...
Conversation:
Bob: Hey Bill, did you hear of that game under development by Ludichris1?
Bill: No. I've never even gone to the thread; it has a weird name.
Bob: But Bill! Splinter Cell is a shooter game! You love shoot 'm ups!
Bill: Oh yes, right. Fine I'll check it out.
Bob: When, Bill?
Bill: Hmmm
Bob: Bill?
Bill: Erm...
Bob: Bill!?
Bill: Sorry Bob! Got to go see the Game Contest topics with over 50 replies! Catcha later.
Bob: Bill!! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

technically its not a doublepost, its a bump
and also i think chris should only advertise the game like this when its fully done, or release a demo

sorry, but it's rude to continually bump your own thread, also a lot of people advertise games before they're finished, to build anticipation

I WILL release a demo ONCE I:
1. Get the movement animations right. (sigh)
2. Fix up the player's bullets (oh the horror! [see the latest dev note])
You won't have anyone to shoot yet lol, but at least you will be able to move left and right, shoot your gun, and get a health coin (which since you have 100hp doesn't work)

Actually you quoted the wrong person. Blade-Edge said that not Fireball.
@fireball: How's he repeatedly bumping it? You reply was the 2nd one, meaning he only bumped once.
And Chris, I think you should finished a basic version of the game first, then advance it up, and then jazz it up with title screens and other flashy stuff to make it look good. What you've done is made the title screen first, which should be last on your list of things to do.

OOps silly me (or should I say ludichris?). Too late for that though eh, norberts?
Oh well.
ANYWAY, I've updated the post and you can now play the demo version! BUT:
1. I didn't fix the movement.
2. I didn't fix the bullets (but I DID fix where they spawn from)

it sounds like its coming along
oh and fireball
i said something then you quoted me saying the exact same thing?

no offense, but the game sounds like it's gonna be kinda newbish since you don't know how to code AI direction, but that's all good, you're still learning so I don't expect your games to be outstanding, though IDK this looks like it'll use newbish coding techniques, but the actual game won't be to shabby
BTW how to code AI direction:
if (Xposition) of (player) < (AI's Xposition):
point in direction (-90)
else:
point in direction (90)

I have come to a "programmer's block" and can't figure out what to do. It's so frustrating! The stupid enemy AI bullets are supposed to GLIDE 2 (?) SECONDS TO X: Sam Fisher's ANY Y: -24 (or whatever) but it only goes to the x and y coordinates I set it to! So if Sam Fisher spawns in the middle of the screen, but then when the game starts he moves to the right of the screen, the bullets won't follow! I ALSO tried making it to where the bullets glide to -300 or 300 x coordinates depending on where Sam Fisher is, and if the bullets hit Sam Fisher, then it does the whole "player is hurt" thing. But the bullets go right past him! Even with the IF Sam Fisher's TOUCHING en_bullets!
I think this game was doomed at the start. I mean really, my first game! I tried to make a game beyond my capabilities. The game has just become such a pain to me, I can't bear it! (mebe that's why I haven't updated in the last 4 days!).
So now, I have come to these three conclusions:
1. I cancel development.
2. I suspend development.
3. I let someone else take over the project and finish it, and credit me for i.e. "Splinter Cell is based off of Ludichris1's project" or something. If someone wants to do this, I will upload the rest of the sprites and sounds for it, and upload a Splinter Cell Dev Download last version.
I'm sorry to disappoint you guys but, It's just too much for me..
