Who cares if the scratch team knows something personal about you? They aren't going to send you dead cats in the mail or harass your grandparents or something. They're pretty responsible people

Their privacy policy should still say what they keep and be a better indicator of what they do with the data they collect.

Hi all! Thanks for asking and thinking about this. We're actually updating our privacy policy on the beta site right now, so it's a good time to get recommendations on what to try to clarify.

Because we are responsible for moderating the Scratch community, and Scratch is a community for children, we have access to all of the data ever shared to Scratch - including deleted comments. This is a pretty standard policy for sites for kids, because we need to have access to all the data to detect and protect against internet creeps.

If there's something that you aren't comfortable sharing publicly, then it's best not to share it on Scratch - since everything on the site is publicly visible and indexed by google. If you say something you later regret that doesn't break the community guidelines, and it gets deleted, we won't share it with anyone. If an account is blocked as a result of projects or comments that do break the community guidelines, we may discuss these with the account holder during the appeal process. As many of you know, our policy is only to discuss these things with the account holder (that's why we don't discuss account blocks publicly.)

The exception is when an account is used to do stuff that's clearly disrespectful and breaks the community guidelines, and we feel we need to block access until the parents or people in charge of the computers contact us to have it unblocked. In those cases, we may provide the usernames involved and a sample of any disrespectful comments that were made. Pretty much every time we've done this, the accounts involved were throwaways - not long time, established community members.

Since Scratch 2.0 is all "in the cloud", un-shared projects are a new privacy issue - as no one but their creator and the Scratch Team can see them. As mentioned in the 2.0 FAQ - Privacy Policy, we do have access to unshared projects on Scratch 2.0. In general we only use that access when investigating an issue related to moderation - which happens very rarely. If you definitely don't want members of Scratch moderation team to be able to view an unshared project, consider installing the downloadable editor (coming this Summer), or just use Scratch 1.4.

I wonder, too. I think it's alright that they see deleted comments. Any problems with comments, they should handle it.
