Re: Doors V-one of the most advanced OSes on Scratch!

Dear fellow Scratchers,
Scratching has been a great adventure for me. I am sorry to announce my resignation. I am becoming too busy with my schoolwork and book writing to do Scratch anymore, so I will be discontinuing my favorite project, the Doors operating system. I will post updates and some selections from my upcoming book “The April of the Fools” regularly. I have appreciated all of your comments over this last year, and I will miss all of you.
Sincerely,
infinitytec, CEO, Founder, Head Programmer, and all that other stuff of infinity

Edit: April Fools! I am not quitting Scratch!

It was an April Fools joke. I am not leaving.

Re: Doors V-one of the most advanced OSes on Scratch!

Please stop bumping this thread. Bumps are only needed when your thread is like... at the bottom.

Also, do you even know what an OS is?

1. Your "Applications" look sort of cheesey, just saying.
2. I wouldn't call this an OS, I would call this a cheap rip-off Windows 2000 simulation.
3. An OS is a... "master control program in computer: the essential program in a computer that maintains disk files, runs applications, and handles devices such as the mouse and printer". This does none of those things.
4. "Ping" is something completely different from the "game" your are simulating. It's called PONG.
5.Be sure to state your sources.
6. Just saying, the logos and icons looks sort of cheesey.

Say you are using scratch as an emulator. This still is not an OS because it cannot store data, as there is absolutely no hard drive.

Well, can you make a better one?   hmm   Scratch is more limited.  I say if you can make a better one, you have the right to criticize.

Checked again from 6 months ago.  Great improvements!  Good job!

Hi Pilplup - just to clarify, we do allow thread bumping on these forums - as long as it's kept to a reasonable level (no more than once or twice a day).

Also, please try and keep your remarks constructive and remember that the goal is to learn and motivate - not critique so heavily that people get discouraged.

Making OS simulations is a popular activity on Scratch - and quite challenging because of the limitations of the language and the complexities of the simulation.  I'm sure people realize that their projects are just simulations and are not actually going to control the computer system  smile

See Paddle2See's mesage.

Yes.

Pilplup wrote:

I am working on that for Doors 6.

Pilplup wrote:

First of all, I do not believe I have ever used Windows 2000 in my life, and if I have, I do not remember using it. Second, this is an OS simulation that is not supposed to be a rip-off.

Pilplup wrote:

Tis is an OS simulation, not a real OS.

The reason I have ping instead of Pong is because the game is ping, not Pong. Ping is a game I made.

I think they look fine, but I may change some.

I have experimented with a data storage for pictures, but Scratch 1.4 would not handle it. In older versions of this system you could store text.

This is really cool. Very creative! First Scratch GUI/OS I've seen. I can't wait to see how you develop and explore projects like this in the future.

Well, I will probably not be improving graphics, since it is being coded in Scratch 1.4 and I want to have app comparability with Doors V. I will be releasing more information later.

I'm also planning on making an OS simulation thing!
Nice work, by the way! (I don't approve of rude criticism *cough* Pilpup *cough)
If I ever make an OS project, would you mind if I have you in the credits?
