Re: Animal Farm

I do not get a word of what you're saying.

I haven't read the book yet, but I have seen the film. I hope to read the book sometime anyway.

About communism not working with people?

It's like if someone built a "raccoon trap." They marketed it as a raccoon trap and all of the shelves in the supermarkets had it labelled as a raccoon trap, but whenever someone tries to use it to catch raccoons, it fails miserably. When the inventor is questioned about why it doesn't work, she says "It would work perfectly fine if they were ferrets". So why is it labelled a raccoon trap if it doesn't work with and never will work with raccoons?!? And who needs a ferret trap anyway?!?

Communism was drafted up and planned for humans but it will never work for them so it's pretty useless

Reading back on that my analogy seems totally off but I like it so I'm still going to post it

Re: Animal Farm

that is a terrible analogy

there's a town in canada that's socialist
it works
(also i personally think that the problem with socialism not working so far is that the countries that have adopted it so far are super large [except cuba--and theyve worked super well, and if america didnt boycott them theyd work much better], so i think we need a gradual change like we did with feudalism->trading->capitalism)

he's talking about communism, not socialism.
George Orwell himself was pretty much a socialist.

to sum up: actually look at the post you're nitpicking before you nitpick.

Re: Animal Farm

1984 was about a lot more than just the TYPE of government though.

The current thread of the conversation started out with something about"People always cite Animal Farm and 1984"

Re: Animal Farm

EDIT: oops! reread topic post, switching text to gainsboro.

another one of my favorite parts is how the farm's name is changed back to 'Manor Farm' after the pigs have pretty much taken over.  yikes

Re: Animal Farm

I had to read it as a novel for school. I loved it.
