Re: Scratch population decrease

Some people are quitting Scratch, but there are still a lot of dedicated Scratchers. New members are always joining, too.

Not that it isn't sad to see Scratchers quitting Scratch...

Re: Scratch population decrease

I really think this should go under 'Suggestions', since it suggests something.
---------
To start things off: What's your idea of an improvement to the website? Things are easier said than done.

Regarding cyber-bullies: Certainly, there is no way to avoid cyber-bullies whatsoever; no matter what is done, they will always exist, the best that can be done is to have their actions flagged and to report them to the Scratch Team; they can also be put on the ignore list if necessary. Someone once told me: You only have to deal with bullies for a short time, bullies deal with themselves for their entire lifetime.

Regarding boredom: Kind of hard not to be bored on this website: after all, there are over 450,000 projects on this site to check out! And the Text-Based game in the forums, they can be fun, too! But, if you really think this site is boring, what would you suggest to make thing website 'fun'?

Regarding Not-getting-enough-attention: There are forums, there are galleries, and there are tags that users can utilize as an aid to have projects more attention, and I find that most users who complain about not getting enough attention don't utilize these! Additionally, I can't understand why people are so obsessed with getting attention, especially since this website is about learning (it's quite sad to think that there are attention-obsessed users these days)

So... what do you suggest can be done?

Re: Scratch population decrease

I certainly see that a lot of scratchers have quit due to cyber bullying, and PIONOchio nearly quit, himself.
]
but what I don't get, is why a user would go on a LEARNING site, and start cyber bullying, it doesn't make enough sense

Re: Scratch population decrease

They quit scratch for an attention plee. They want to be noticed, so they post a project at about midday, Saturday, American time, so that most people will notice it, and say
If nobody remixes or loves then i will quit scratch

They always did and will no matter what you do.  smile

I don't think we should care so much about quitting Scratchers, after all the internet isn't supposed to control the life of people. They do and go as they please, and no their life isn't ruined because of it. ^^

And it doesn't hurt us either if they do publicity stunts and get popular on the net. ^^

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: Scratch population decrease

People can quit if they want too, because they have good reasons or not. It's not always scratch either, Sometimes it's sadness. Cyber-Bullies can't reallbe avoided, but there is an ignore list. They could always advertise in the forums, and sometimes boredom is good. And wouldn't this fit in Suggestions? (There should be "other")

Lots of people quit, but many more join. Look at the statistics on the front page!
