Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I have never seen this. Even on my project with nearly 400 scripts and around 60 sprites.

I think its luck for it not too happen to me.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I was in paint editor just typing like normal hen amm of a sudden the letters I was typing weren't showing up. I thought it was just me accidently hitting Alt or somthing so I clicked again. Nothing. So I decided to delet the couple of words i'd already written when ALL the text dissapeared. So I closed paint editor and shortly after my screen outline went white. I quickly saved it using Ctrl+S then used Alt+Tab to go to the internet (with non animated tabs open, and skype) then realised that my windows button(bottom left corner) had a second version of my clock (usually bottom right corner) behind it - and that the second version was 2 minutes ahead. I tried closing scratch normally but it didn't work so i opened task manager and shut it that way. Then the second version of the clock dissapeared.

I have a windows 7 computer with plenty of memory left on it and there was hardly any applications running in the background.

C'mon let try to slay this bug!

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I think I have a temporary solution! I say temporary because it can be somewhat inefficient and tedious, esspecially if you have lots of text. But it'll do. All you have to do is go into costume(s)/background - click edit and the click OK. There you have it. The text will re-appear. Could this help discover what is wrong with the bug?

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I have this bug in my project whenever i click on two sprites. All other sprites are alright but whenever i try to click on these the thing starts lagging and making the text disappear. The extent to which the text disappears varies each time. I think this bug might be both to do with the memory manager and the text editor.

I have also received the ''Insufficient memory to create the bitmap, please close one or more applications.'' message when trying to use print screen sometimes. However with the 1GB of RAM i have, i'm using around 700 MBs so i don't see where that's coming from. And yes i'm running XP on a HT enabled P4. Therefore i sincerely believe the bug is somewhere in the memory manager.

i would upload screenshots but i'm a new scratcher still.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I think we've solved it... or have we, lots of people are saying it happened in the paint editor and most of them people said they were using text. But that's the thing that is strange and scares me a bit, as you all know the bug came in scratch 1.3, if people are using text and it happens, how can they not have it in scratch 1.1 but type more in scratch 1.1 (people type more cause they do a lot of tutorials in scratch 1.1 and big games) .

Here is some tips to avoid it

1. don't use so much text because text could possibly be how the bug occours
2. if your making a game that is meant to be 1s1s1c and has a lot of text and scripting, don't bother, do loads of minute scripts

Hope I helped! Thanks !

yes it could, most people are saying it disappears in paint editor so go back into the paint editor and click ok
(by the way it has nothing to do with text, see my post ^^^^^^

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I was typing with a weird font once, and messing around with the letters. I closed the paint editor, click file, and what do I see? Nothing! All of the text in the lists was gone. The Sprite names were gone. All text (except the blocks) was gone! I had trouble saving my work. I had to restart my computer.
I had another bug at that same time that I think is associated. When I hit backspace, the pi symbol came up. Pi? you ask, yes pi.
This is Scratch 1.4 operating on a Windows 7 system with a Toshiba laptop. My Toshiba freaks out a lot, if that helps.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

IT HAS STRUCK AGAIN!

Ok, I think I have found a problem.

If you are using a weird font, and are in the paint editor, DON'T MINIMIZE THE SCRATCH WINDOW!

That's how it always happens to me.

Now I have to start my project over again....

Tip of the whatever: Don't post in threads older than 2 weeks unless your post will actually be useful.
It's the last day of 1.4! *cries* (quote from NeilWest, rest by me) by the time you read this it probably will be 2.0  sad
