Microwaving metal of any kind is a bad idea, as it will heat up and start sparks. Anyone see when mythbusters got some C4 plastic explosive, stuck some decorative wires into it, and microwaved it? The wires got hot and started creating sparks, setting off the explosive, pretty cool

So on the aluminum foil topic, we were at my mother's workplace in the little kitchen and we were warming up pizza. Well, my brother just threw his pizza in the microwave, aluminum foil and all, and started it up. (He had to be like, 9. I was younger.) Seconds later, the thing starts sparking and we're like, 'Woah! What's going on?' and my mom ran in and stopped it. So yeah.. that was an interesting experience. .3.

They already did that, except they just took apart an old broken microwave they had and put some of the parts in another.
Micro-ception!

Putting anything other than organic matter into a microwave is generally a bad idea (other than plates and plastic). With metal you are asking for trouble...

The reason it is not safe to put metal in a microwave is because a microwave is radioactive (most of the time), and metal usually is not compatible with microwaves
I know! Let's microwave a nuclear bomb! We need a big microwave...
