Save failed: Is the folder read-only?

I was trying to save one of my projects but it just came up with this:
Save failed: Is the folder read-only?

I kept trying to save it but it still came up with the same thing but I am wondering if it is because I haven't downloaded scratch 1.3.

Some folders are locked so you can't save projects.

Re: Save failed: Is the folder read-only?

I think I may know your problem.  I need to know two things first before I can help.

1.  Are you using a mac?
2.  If you are using a mac, did you download scratch in a .dmg file?

Re: Save failed: Is the folder read-only?

here is what u should do. this happens to me. u can't save in the file it first opens up as. u have to go in to ur documents. Get there by clicking on the side button that says home. actually, right after u click on home click save. thats what i do

Dear Scratch Users,
I'm done with scratch, or at least making projects. I have made one last big game, thats both fun and teaches a lesson about water. It'd mean a lot if you gave me feedback.                              http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/bosox397/569201

For anyone else with this problem, I think I know what happened: Did you have any punctuation in the save file's name? If yes, get rid of it. That's what worked for me! Hope this helps.

I have a similiar problem that has occurred twice in which after importing another projects to get a sprite or some sound or graphic the project refuses to be saved, giving an error message saying <Save failed, class ifelseblockmorph> or <Save failed, classforeverblockmorph> or uploaded unil you delete ALL imported items. The first time it also gave a message saying squeak is almost out of memory. This is slightly annoying as I made a huge amount of graphics and scripts in one game that I want in another but will have to copy by hand. If anyone  knows something to do about this please help.

Re: Save failed: Is the folder read-only?

Happened to me too, but I'm using 1.3.1. Making it un-read-only in the right-click Properties menu reverts it back. To solve the problem, make another folder called "Projects" (respecting case) and move all your projects in there. The Scratch program thinks this is the real file, so it dives in there instead of the read-only one. Then you can act like nothing ever happened!  wink

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

Thanks, I think I'll just avoid doing that much in the future to avoid the danger, you always do stuff better the second time anyway.

THANK YOU Bonkersjen!!!! You fixed it! Only, on my PC, it's only question marks (?) that do it. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
