Ludum Dare speed programming event - are you in?

I heard of this thing called the Ludum Dare. The goal is to write a game in a weekend starting with nothing but a theme.

I have got to try this now and probably will regret this later  tongue  but I've already made an "I'm in" post so no going back now!

anyone else up for it? 15 days to decide!

edit: just kidding about the 15 days, now it's over.

Re: Ludum Dare speed programming event - are you in?

I'm in. What are the restrictions on libraries? I may try to round out my C++ game library into a semi-usable form but I may be better off going in Java like I did last comp. I competed last year and made a semi-functional game, but it lacked polish, had no real style, and bad instructions. I was quite proud for getting done in time, though. I hope to learn from last time's (rookie) mistakes and do better this time!  big_smile

Edit: Grammar. Also, turns out I can use it if I make it available, but I think I'll just go from pure scratch with OpenGL. I'll go with Java again this year because it's more universal and I don't have resources to build and debug it for Mac.

Re: Ludum Dare speed programming event - are you in?

I have been thinking about the Ludum Dare for a while now. Problem being? I can't wright out a decent program start to finish within 48 hours. I'm still working on the fundementals of Java & C++. XD

Sooner or Later. Or sooner. Not much, except for a lot. In a way. But it will come no matter what.

I'm really hoping I don't have to much homework. If I don't have too much then I'll use Java and listen to Homework the whole time.

I'd love to particicipate, but I'm too lazy and haven't programmed beyond simple command-line utilities.  tongue

Yeah, first time I wanted to join in it turned out that there were scheduling difficulties. Second time it worked.  big_smile

Yeah, it does certainly seem like something I would like to do in the future.
Also, the orginial creator of Minecraft actually did the Ludum Dare several times, & had made some brilliant stuff, which is how I found out about the dare.

*sudden idea* We should do like some sort of Ludum Dare thing on Scratch as well!  big_smile

You mean like... this?

Both SeptimusHeap and I agree that we should do another one sometime. Probably after LD though, can't have them intersect.  tongue
(Also note that you can make games for LD in scratch.  wink )

Also I realize I entered LD24, and skipped LD25. The upcoming event is LD26.

Good idea. I've been caught up in my website and modding Minecraft recently, but the first Game Jam was fun! Should we do it the same way, with random categories, or what?

It would be better to make it just one thing that everyone had to do like in the Ludum Dare.
