actually it's somewhat possible for the variety of banana we use now (the cavendish) to go extinct - this happened to the variety we used before, the gros michel, because of diseases. banana scientists are working on a solution to this pressing problem but since bananas are bred to be seedless it's extremely difficult and time-consuming and doesn't get a lot of funding
