I've seen a bunch of articles the last few months about how outrageous an organization centered on animal rights or whatever kills more than 90% of the animals that the "shelter" that is their headquarters in Norfolk takes in, but I don't really understand how people can get so upset over it if they have any idea how pet adoption works.
I volunteer at a "no-kill" shelter in my area. What "no-kill" means is that they only take in animals that they think are "adoptable." If they're too mean or too sick (We have an on-site vet, but they can only do so much), they get taken to the other shelter, where they get killed there! Great. So "No-kill" shelters just mean "we don't kill on the premises." There are really too many pets to get adopted, ever. (Spay & neuter, folks! Seriously, please. It's kitten season and we get in so many cute little kittens and we know for sure most of them can never be adopted. It almost breaks my heart almost.)
First, everyone always knew PETA was crazy and not some god-sent animal saviour group anyway, they're more about awareness I guess. I've never heard about anything they've done to save or protect animals but I've heard plenty about wacky campaigns they do. Pretty strange thing to want to give your money to, so all of the people who have really shouldn't be disappointed with the garbage they waste it on because it's what they were getting themselves into e_e
I guess it's a little awful that they didn't put very much effort at all into "saving" most of the animals (I read that something like only 12 dogs and 7 cats got adopted from them last year e_e) but really there isn't that much you can do. According to the Humane Society's website, about half of impounded pets don't get adopted and the few thousand abandoned pets that PETA's shelter killed really doesn't skew those numbers at all, and there are "normal" shelters with kill-rates more or less the same as theirs was. I looked at PETA’s site and it even TELLS YOU that they will PROBABLY PUT THE ANIMAL OUT OF ITS HOMELESSNESS AND SUFFERING BY EUTHANIZING IT. So … Yeah.
And like is killing the animals better than letting them suffer ??? Because I think so :T
I can’t link to any articles because I’m a New Scratcher but if you Google “Peta kills animals” or something lots of stuff should come up
So, all in all, my message here is to please spay & neuter your pets

I really don't see how this could turn into a "flame war" if everyone just expresses themselves civilly (and doesn't hold incredibly radical opinions). I'm open to discussion from all points of view from this and I know I won't "flame" anyone, and I hope no one tries to "flame" anyone else either.

Oh, trust me, there'll always be someone who will turn the thread into a battlefield...
Which is a sad thing.

Well, then we can try to actually discuss what I posted until that "someone" comes along.

Ironicly the "kid friendly" parody games they make are bloodier and gorier than the franchises they're based them on.
What puzzles me that PeTA has existed since the late 80's/early 90's and didn't make fuss about Super Mario Bros. 3 when it was released. But when Super Mario 3D Land came came out two years ago, they lost their minds. Why did they complain now and not then?
My guess is that they just want attention.
I am predicting that they will attack Pikmin 3 next.

What did they have against Super Mario?

They didn't like his tanooki suit. They thought that Mario supported fur coats or something.

@Toxic They are desperate for said attention right now; hence why their campaigns are getting each day more ridiculous, radical and unfounded: they need to keep appearing in the news to stay relevant. Or rather, to appear relevant, because PETA hasn't been relevant for decades by now.

Euthanasia is precisely what you are describing; putting a living being out of suffering, by ending it's life. Homelessness certainly isn't a reason for it - it's why the shelters exist in the first place - but serious sicknesses that can't be cured for economic reasons or otherwise, definitely are. It may sound horrible to most, but as the last resort it is, it must be done sometimes.
But I agree with your overall point; if we neutered the animals in the first place, the problem wouldn't be nearly as big.

Well, it's an interesting discussion, but perhaps not one that really fits the "Reading and Playing" guidelines. Maybe a Scratch project about the topic might be a better way to go here.
