Where's the start menu?

Just hover your mouse around the screen for about 20 minutes, then wait a little bit, then really fast, click what you want!

Please help me, Win8 is going to kill me. My mom is forced to work with it because of her IT job.

Move mouse to lower left corner in desktop mode. Note that windows 8 boots straight into the start menu.

Hover over to the bottom left of the touch screen, and it will show up. If you want the search menu, swipe from the side for charms, and press search.

Oh I see where Microsoft is going with this!

When they made the ribbon interface, (word 2007+, windows 8 explorer) people complained there were buttons everywhere instead of hiding behind menus, so now they're hiding the buttons altogether and using keyboard shortcuts!

Also they were bribed by book publishers who would make a fortune selling books like 'windows 8 made easy' 'windows 8 for dummies'  'windows 8 for the rest of us' 'the handy book of windows 8 keyboard shortcuts' etc.  tongue

Re: Windows 8

My sister has Windows 8 since it came with her computer...  Can't play DVDs without internet and randomly spasms into other applications while playing MC.  Not a good idea.  At least they kept the desktop.  hmm

Well considering how much memory Minecraft takes up, I think that could happen on any computer. It happens on mine with Windows 7 because, well, it's a budget laptop, so that's what I expect to happen. I get 20 fps at most when I play Minecraft.
The OS doesn't make the difference, but what the OS is actually running on.

They are making it difficult for desktop users because they want top transition to touch devices.
And everything has a learning curve.

thats not what random spasms into other applications would generally mean; i think he means it would randomly switch to another application (which ive never seen happen)

And what about Macs? To take a screenshot, you have to choose between a million options in taking a screenshot. You want just a window? Command Shift 4. You want a full screen? Command Shift 3. How are people supposed to know this? It's not like people will say "Oh, lets see what happens when I press CMD Shift 3. OMG! WHAT GIVES? It takes a screenshot! That was so easy to figure out!
On Windows 8, press hmmm...
Print Screen, I wonder?
And what does it do? It takes a screen shot! Wow!
There are so many key board shortcuts on a Mac, if you by accident put you hand on the keyboard, you will find yourself erasing the Hard Drive!
Get a PC.

Dude would you quit hating you're being very annoying.
Plus people can just look up on the internet how to do it!
And, erasing the hard drive by touching the keyboard? As far as I can tell you can't wipe your hard drive with one keystroke. Congratulations on making yourself look like an uninformed idiot.

Thank you.

FYI, I use the preview app which comes default with all Macs which is able to take screenshots of full screen, windows and selections, and also edit them before saving. You can save as jpg, PNG, and much more.

I also contributed this method to the website take-a-screenshot.org

Snipping tool is primitive, but gets the job done  tongue

I can imagine a dedicated screenshot app would be useful on XP

its actually super useful and id use it on other versions of windows as well
you can select an area (and it includes the mouse) and then a little menu pops up once youre done, allowing you to do a variety of things (open in editor, save as...) and i usually just copy to clipboard to paste to imgur or ms paint or something
but i <3 it
