Hello my fellow scratchers,
Recently I posted a project explaining that I was leaving temporarily, but it's the easter holidays so I have one week without anything to do. So I have decided to hold a competition to design a level for "The Dot" which is a platformer game that I created.
UPDATE: I am currently making The Dot 3, which will be a kind of bonus level pack. ALL of the entries will be in this, the ones on the leaderboard will be nearer the end and will recieve special mention. The name of the person that made the level will be visible on their level. Me and EdgeGamer have also decided to make one level each of our own.
UPDATE#2: I have already put in a few levels into The Dot 3. It's harder than I thought, there is a lot of moving sprites around and changing scripts but I think I can manage. Remember the deadline is on the 13th of April and after 12:00 GMT you cannot submit any more projects. The Dot 3 should be out the day after that...
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTERING:
1- Click on the link provided below for "The Dot" level template
2- Download that project and edit the stage. There will be several props provided from "The Dot 2" (Special thank you to EdgeGamer for the amazing graphics in "The Dot 2")
3- Press the green flag and the dot will appear; you can then test the level NOTE- The level must be possible for it to be judged.
4- Upload your project and post a reply on this forum thread with your scratch username and link to your project.
The Dot Level Template
Rules:
- The level has to end when you touch the right edge of the screen.
- It has to be possible.
- It has to have a name (I know that's not really a rule but I want the levels to be named.)
These levels will be judged by myself and my friend EdgeGamer. We will both post our review of the level and the ones with the highest score will go on the leaderboard. They will be judged with this criteria:
Difficulty (The higher it is the better) 1/10
Dotiness (How much it looks like a dot level) 1/10
Uniqueness (How different it is from the other levels) 1/10
Glitches (The lower the score the more glitches it has) 1/10
Our personal opinion (What we think of the level) 1/10
Prizes!
The levels on the leaderboard at 12:00pm on Saturday 13th April will:
- be on The Dot 3 as levels
- receive special mention on "The Dot 3" and on this forum
- make me really happy!

Good job here. I think that the Dot 2 bonus level idea could be replaced by simply making the Dot 3 all of the best entries put together. Just my opinion, do as you like, but I just think it would be cool. I don't think that making The Dot 3 would be too hard to make or too time consuming to make if we just glued the entries together.
It wouldn't make much difference except that making them into a third installment would let us put, say, the top 10 in, while putting so many in as bonus levels would make The Dot 2 maybe too big.
Plus, people like unexpected sequels. Wait, would they expect it after this post? Ugh...
WAIT! ONE LAST THING! I have two weeks out of school if we need to extend the deadline for any reason (which I hope not being how busy you will be, I would have to take over the whole thing if you wanted to continue that badly)
EDIT: I thought the deadline was this Saturday so I actually don't have the extra time sorry...

Ok thanks EdgeGamer for the advice, I'll make a few changes, although I'm still not sure about The Dot 3...
EDIT: Thanks for offering to take over if I get busy again...

Ok I think The Dot 3 can be done. I made the deadline for this on Saturday and I start school two days later but if we get loads of levels from here (which isn't happening at the moment) then I think we could make The Dot 3 as a kinda bonus level pack and it should be easy. What's your thoughts on that?

That was what I had in mind all along. Where text is on other levels, these levels will show their own ratings and their creators. Come on people, enter!
Also, I'm not sure how useful 'Glitches' is as criteria because all of the scripts are by you. I suppose it could be saying if the level can be cheated on or passed in an unintended way, like if a level creator didn't notice that somebody could just wall jump to the goal.

I'll post my level soon.

Thanks Sholvanic! I'll look at it and review it, then EdgeGamer will do the same and we'll calculate an average.

Level: House Break in

Difficulty 5/10
Thanks for being the first to enter! However, I don't think I made it clear, you can change the enemies and objects around. It was still quite hard to get past the last two enemies though!
Dotiness 10/10
It looked like a Dot level and felt like one so what else can I give other than a ten!
Uniqueness 8/10
I liked the idea of shrinking The Dot, that was actually one of my initial ideas for the game, but it glitched it up so I didn't do it. But you seemed to do it quite well!
Glitches 7/10
It wasn't too glitchy because you didn't add too much, however the shrinking/growing pads sometimes made him grow into the floor.
My personal opinion 6/10
It was a nice level, but I think to someone of your standard, Sholvanic1058, you could have done better. Maybe it was because you didn't know you could move things, I don't know. But thanks for entering and I think it was a great level!
Total: 36/50
NOTE: This isn't the final score, I have to wait for EdgeGamer to review it and then we will calculate an average.
Can I redo it?

The Dot Level Review
Judge: EdgeGamer
Level: House Break In - http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Sholvanic1058/3233594
Creator: Sholvanic1058
Difficulty (The higher it is the better) 6/10 - I am scoring you higher now here because of the bat and moved lava making the level quite a bit harder.
Dotiness (How much it looks like a dot level) 2/10 - I can't really score you very high here, the level introduced a ton of new features that we had never seen before, which may boost uniqueness, but lowers Dotiness. Also, the verticley moving faced dots and new bat movements are very different to that of The Dot.
Uniqueness (How different it is from the other levels) 8/10 - It's unique I'll give you that
Glitches (The lower the score the more glitches it has) 5/10 - It was OK but unfortunately the growing block acted as a checkpoint (weirdly) and I was bouncing on nothing (which may have been an invisible bounce block that iaomeur put there)
Our personal opinion (What we think of the level) 4/10 - it was interesting seeing the new shrink block but unfortunately the level was too easy for my taste and was quite straightforward.
Total: 25/50
EDIT: This is for the old one! Let me check the new one! Then I'll change it!
EDIT 2: Updated review!

Hey EdgeGamer, I know I'm probably being fussy but could you add this at the top of your review:
The Dot Level Review: Judge: EdgeGamer
Level: Whatever level it is with a link
By: Whoever it's by
I think this will help us keep track of who did what project.

Ok I have an idea, we both review and then add our totals to get a score out of 100, sound good?
EDIT: For the judge thing you are just meant to put who you are, for example if it was me reviewing, I would put my name but if it is you then just put your name.
EDIT#2 Forget the edit above

Ok let's do that then, just change your review to how you think of the level and then I'll add the totals and it will go on the leaderboard with that score and than we be the official score.

The Dot Level Review: Judge: iaoumeur and EdgeGamer
Level: House Break in - http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Sholvanic1058/3233594

Dotiness 8/20
Uniqueness 16/20
Glitches 14/20
My personal opinion 12/20

Now just edit Sholvanic's leaderboard score. This is our reviews added. Yes, I did it for you.
