Re: Trivia/Did you know?

i have a notebook of this stuff somewhere
i'll skip some of the dumb ones

i'm not 100% sure about the credibility of a few of these

1. There are 6,500 windows on the Empire State Building.
2. There are more chickens in the world than people.
3. Venus's day is longer than its year.
7. 90% of seeing eye dogs are Labradors.

18. Christmas colors are red and green because red represents blood and green represents life.
29. The first person in space was Yuri Gagarin of Soviet Russia.
(that one's kind of dumb too though i didn't realize how dumb most of these were! but this notebook's from like fifth grade)
51. Glass is made of sand.
52. Toilets flush in different directions in the North and South hemispheres.
53. The first ice cream was made of mashed fruit mixed with crushed ice.
54. Cocoa beans, the main element of chocolate, taste bitter.
55. Cocoa beans used to serve as money for the Aztecs.
56. It is a theory that penguins used to be able to fly.
57. The dark side of the moon is actually no colder than the other.
63. Medieval people didn't take baths; they just used herbs to cover bad smells.
80. The Aztec king Montezuma would consume up to 50 cups of chocolate a day.
87. More people recognize the McDonalds arches than the Christian cross.
91. Plants breathe carbon dioxide and give off oxygen in daytime, and vice versa at night.
92. Dimes have 118 ridges around the edge.
93. The longest ever year was 46 BC, at 455 days long.

There was a popular troll myth that Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon fitted perfectly with the 1930s musical Wizard of Oz.

This isn't true.

Re: Trivia/Did you know?

The original legend of Jason and the Argonauts was based on a true story, and everything that happens in it, like a man standing in the middle of the ocean, the sea monsters, and the golden fleece, can be perfectly explained.

Yes, isn't it obvious.
THERE WAS A REAL WATER STANDING MAN, A REAL SEA MONSTER, AND A REAL GOLDEN FLEECE.

There's a particular point in the sea in which the story partly takes place (I can't remember which one it is, but anyway) where someone can stand. In the middle of the sea, with no land anywhere in sight, someone can get out of their ship and stand up in the water. There'd be about waist deep, mind you, but still. Evidently there's some sort of mound in that spot (I don't know how large the area in which you can stand is, unfortunately).

The sea monsters were misunderstandings of natural things, such as a whirlpool and ferocious waves crashing over rocks (and, in some legends (though I don't know whether this applies to Jason and the Argonauts) sea monsters were actually real creatures, like the giant squid).

The golden fleece was evidently a legend derived from the practice (in the place they journeyed to) of putting sheep fleeces in streams, which would, over time, collect a lot of gold dust. They'd then melt the fleece and be left with the gold.

Saw it on youtube.

It sort of works.

And also Wizard of Oz has got like two songs, three with the short munchkin part so it is barely a musical.

Re: Trivia/Did you know?

Skrillex's Bangarang music video featured alot of references of the the film Hook!. Obvious references include:

- Bangarang! is the Lost Boy's war cry.
- Shout out to all lost boys! is one of the possible lyrics to the song.
- The antagonist has a Captain Hook-style moustache.
- He also has a crocodile tattoo.

I've watched that video a few times (when I want to remind myself the meaning of dubstep), but never noticed that  tongue
