Re: Write to DEATH - A challenging competition for avid writers

Hi, I've got major writing block. I've literally only written 1000 words so far. Can i drop out of this competition? Sci-fi is really hard to write compared to my usual genre's.):
Sorry 3:

You mean a cyborg? Sure! In fact, if you've seen Fisney's movie Treasure Planet, you can do something like that and it will count.

Ok Whisperfur, that's fine. If you would like to join round two, which will probably be Fantasy, you can fo ahead.

Re: Write to DEATH - A challenging competition for avid writers

1000 words? I was aiming for 1500 as a max!! If we're asked to do more, you might want to lengthen It a bit. Sci fi's hard to write (partly why I like it) and it takes a long time. Long sci fi is even harder. Sci fi is meant to be weird and is just too easy to end.
I thought that, if you collected all the entries together, you shouldn't be able to make even a slightly reasonably sized book, but we seem to be looking at stories long enough to know the characters on a personal basis.
It would take me a book the size of inheritance to know all of mine.
ActuaLly, that wasn't a good point for me. You aren't meant to get to know the characters. I just meant to have a belivable number of them.
You said they could be any length right?
So why am I the only one not writing a saga?
Is it going to effect how I'm judged?
Hey, can round 3 be something that doesn't involve creating a world please? I'm bored off sci fi and fantasy, I write them all the time.
How about a nice restful, espionage cross genre? Nice and easy, lots of present participle.

Ok Whisperfur, that's fine. If you would like to join round two, which will probably be Fantasy, you can fo ahead.

Here's how I described him:

The half human has various parts replaced by robot pieces. His arm, hands, both of his legs, one eye, an ear, his nose, feet, heart.
He checks his wrist, where tiny red dots run up and down his arm, programmed so that each represents one of the alien race. The blue dot represents the ships of our crew. The green dot represents us, while the big black dot is for the Planet.

I'm at 1,710 words. I think it should have somewhere around 2,000 more. I'm shortening it because I sincerely stink at sci-fi. I wish I had entered the Fantasy round instead, because Fantasy is my favorite genre of all time. But, I'm actually enjoying writing this story, and its stepping out of my normal comfort zone, so I'm going to continue with this round. If I found out Round 2 had magic, I would be, like,  mad . I. Love. Magic.!!!!

Is it too late to sign up? If it's not, I wouldn't mind if I still have to wait until round three. I'll be patient.

@pinn: You may write a many words as you feel you should! But the more, the more points you earn from the judges. But remember! Quality over quanity!

Re: Write to DEATH - A challenging competition for avid writers

*phew!* two reasons-you have a quality over quantity belief/thing and also-
earth! Yay! As long as it isn't domestic comedy. I can't stand even Reading that sort of thing. I might just manage a mystery. Maybe. Otherwise I'll do round 4. Even If it isn't on earth, because I'll probably not be bored of sci fi then.
Wait, scifi, or sf, or so?
Science fiction more purely based on the science, the planets, the prospects and ideas, or science fantasy, which is about the characters interacting generally with one futuristic thing, e.g. Time travel, or being in space, or being in the future etc, while space opera is completely focused on the characters, maybe in an interestig settig with interestig technology.

If this competition is goig to be long lasting, you'll probably have to go into sub genres eventually. The question is, when? I can list the main sub genres and give examples if you like, of course, if this becomes really popular, you'll have to go into cross genres and cross sub genres at some point.
I hope I haven't got my genre wrong.  hmm

Round Two is Fantasy, in medieval times. Round Three is modern, with no magic or stuff, it's just fiction. Round Four is also modern, but it's survival, like on Everest, or an Island.

You have to become a scratcher before you get a signature. Keep making and uploading good projects until you become a scratcher and then you can have a signature.

I hope you will be able to start, but I'm afraid you can't just yet. Round two, which you are in, starts on April 9th, so you must wait until then to start writing. You can brainstorm and stuff though.  smile

Medevial times began 300 CE, and ended 1600 CE.
