Eaglesong ran along the forest floor, holding a crow between her jaws. She had caught it near the edge of the forest, and was hurrying back to the camp so that it would still be fresh when she got there. Hunting in the forest had been difficult for her, but instead of practicing, she had started hunting at the edge of the forest, where she knew how the catch the prey. Still, the crow had taken some effort, and dragging it back was not proving much easier.

Taffy shuddered and sprang back from Bravetail, hissing. She was very irritated.

Owlstar sighed. Rosewing always seemed to know everything about him. He had to give up again. Owlstar stooped and took a bite from the bird, inviting Rosewing to do the same.

Owstar sniffed, moving to and fro in the camp. There were no signs of Eaglesong anywhere. At last he thought he catched a faint scent. "This way," he called Rosewing, pointing out into the forest with his nose and headed to where the smell was stronger.
