There's a big difference. Cloud variables are stored on the internet, while normal variables are just in your computer. If you reload a project page, normal variables are reset, but cloud ones remain the same.

Right...and that also means that the next person to run that project will see the same value of the variable that the person before them set it to. So that makes it possible to have games store the high-score of everybody that plays it.
