Another Forum Section?

Ok, I've been finding that the scratch forums have been quite limiting. For example: What Are You Afraid Of?

It got closed, and the owner was told to make a project. The problem is though, it had a quite interesting subject, and if they did make a project, once it left the front page(If it even did get there!) then it would only stay there for a while, and probably be forgotten if the user who created it was not famous.

I'm suggesting a new forum section where things asking for others opinions, such as "What are you afraid of?", "What are your strange habits?" and many more. Of course, this would not fit "I like a girl. What are your opinions on what to do?" sorts of topics. I have no idea for a name, but what do you think of this?

Miscellaneous was closed to prevent topics like that, though.

None taken.

The Scratch Team could use "Opinion Time"... It is the Lifelong Kindergarten Lab after all.

Re: Another Forum Section?

The point of MaC and RaP is that the posts in there often provide useful information to the person reading the topic (like how to do something, what's trending on the internet, etc.). However, the idea suggested here wouldn't really do that. It would only be a way for people to post their ideas/opinions, which does not provide any value to the readers.

How come?

Sharing your opinions can be way more helpful than you think. Many people who are still undecided about a specific subject manage to make up their own point of view by listening to what other people think. That‘s something valuable.

Sharing opinions may benefit one or two readers, but usually doesn't benefit "the masses".  I recently posted a topic in MaC about partitioning my HD to dual-boot Windows and Linux. Several other people may want to do this, and can read the topic for more info on what the risk and procedure is. The topics in RaP also provide useful information about the world and our culture. Someone looking for a movie to watch or wondering what a book's like can look there.

However, opinions are less beneficial. They usually don't help a large amount of readers, if they help any. The other, most important thing: opinion topics can cause disputes and flame wars. If you remember the presidential election thread, over time it evolved into basically a two-sided flame war that ended up as just a forum shouting match. Opinion topics are often likely to do that when people argue about whose side is better. It has happened many times in the past (part of why they closed Misc.) and if allowed will happen again.

Re: Another Forum Section?

I don't think the MaC and RaP were meant to "provide useful information".

I thought they were to inspire people to make new projects.
