Ah, so you don't live in a mud hut in a rainforest somewhere.  smile

Sure feels like it…  hmm

Yeah, Pong is what I generally pick as a first game project, too.  And you want to use Scratch, not for reasons of difficulty one way or the other, but because the kids will want to share their work with the Scratch audience of a quarter-million (estimated active accounts) other kids.

I'm not planning on making them accounts—too much trouble.

A good idea if you can swing it is to invite the kids' parents to come work with their kid.  We do that in the elementary school strand of our K12 outreach organization.  It has two big advantages.  (1) After your five hours are up, there's a better chance that the kids will keep going with Scratch if their parents continue to encourage and support them; (2) the kids will be on their best behavior and each parent can be in charge of keeping that kid focused and of answering the easiest of kid questions.

Good idea!  smile

Plan on losing one of the five hours to creating a Scratch account and getting the hang of clicking blocks together.

Yeah, and downloading/installing it.

Yeah, it is, but I think you should organize some of the files (at least the languages, which add a lot of clutter).

@Jens would you include a changeset that added accelerometer/gyro/compass blocks on mobile version? If so, are you ok with me haphazardly adding event handlers for "ondevice*", or do you have some protocol for that?

Hey, gang, I've just started the official Snap! thread.

Hardmath123 wrote:

I hereby propose that we keep this thread for math puzzles, criticism of school, teasing nXIII, and maybe even who is sleeping in what hotel room in Barcelona (I actually almost said "with whom" for a moment before realizing that that doesn't mean what I meant  smile ), so as to keep the new thread reasonably on-topic and not scare away people not part of the Inner Circle.

@bharvey What are the best hotels near Citilab in Barcelona?

Also, I've posted a short promo video for Snap-NXT and WiiSnap on YouTube if anyone wants to see it. I had some really cool music on it, but it was copyrighted and un-postable on YouTube. http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=N5Bf5ve198Q

That is really cool! I love how you've combined the two of your projects  tongue  The scripts are impressively short, too. I'll have to try it with mine...

While watching, I was wondering: what happens if Snap! sends simultaneous backward and forward motor commands?  tongue

Thanks!
I suspect the robot would go forwards, then backwards (I don't have threading in the Python scripts).  smile

@bharvey Yeah, I'll be bringing a parent.

@roijac @bharvey #promo video Thanks!

It would be really nice if we could just group posts by conversation within a topic.

Maybe someone can talk the ST into a toplevel Snap! forum.  smile

Or maybe MioSoft and Jens will implement fora on the Snap! server soon.  It could be a secret feature -- you shift-click on the cloud icon or something, and no web page points to it directly.  tongue

Ooh, no, I have a better idea!  We don't have to keep it secret, because we can have automated moderation, as follows:  Every time a message is posted, the software automatically also posts it to this thread on Scratch, and every few minutes the software looks to see if the post has been removed by the Scratch moderators, and if so, it gets deleted on the Snap! site too.

EDIT:  Speaking of JSO, you could ask about sharing a hotel room with him.  Or are you bringing a parent too?
