Well, when I put text in, it sometimes keeps flashing and repeating, preventing further progress. Any of you see that?

No, I've never seen or experienced this before, so it might be something with Scratch or your computer. How long ago did you get your computer and is it by chance a Linux or Raspberry Pi?
