Yes, he looks a bit tall, but he can be as tall as the hero. 

Looks good, and also, since he's not going to be a party member (he's still going to help you greatly) he doesn't need a sprite, unless you want him to literally fight alongside you.

I have a few suggestions.

I wouldn't make the houses all one color, because it looks rather strange. Also, the entire village seems a bit sparse, without any grass or flowers or stuff.

... All the houses are different colors  . I'm assuming you mean the farmhouse shape for the two houses, so I'll fix that. And this is just a work in progress; I'll add scenery later.
