Murderous Math(s)

HI GUYS!  big_smile

Okay, so I did a search, and I found out that no one has posted about this before, so I decided to be the first. 'Murderous Math'  is a series of books about math. (Well... actually, it would be 'Murderous Maths' to them, since they're British. But I'm American, so I call it 'math'  tongue ) They are HILARIOUS! When you read them, you won't just LOL. You'll ROTFL to the power of INFINITY! They have all these characters and stuff, and they use them to illustrate math concepts (like square roots, primes, Fibonacci numbers, etc.) They are so interesting!

I found out about this series at the beginning of the school year. My mom already had a few of these books. I was learning how to convert measurements in science class, so my mom got out the book 'Desperate Measures', and had me read a chapter about it. I liked it so much, I read the rest of the book. And reread it. And reread it. And reread it. Finally, I told my mom that I liked 'Murderous Math', but was getting tired of reading the same book over and over again. So for Christmas, I asked for the book 'The Phantom X', a book on Algebra. I thought it would be useful since I'm studying pre-Algebra. Well, I didn't just get 'The Phantom X'. I got an almost COMPLETE SET of ALL THE 'MURDEROUS MATH' BOOKS! I read through them quickly, and now the only one I haven't completely read is 'The 5ecret l1fe 0f code5' (because it's too confusing!)

The books I currently have are: 'Guaranteed to Bend Your Brain', 'Desperate Measures', 'The Murderous Math of Everything', 'Easy Questions, Evil Answers', 'The Fiendish Angletron', 'The Key to the Universe', 'Guaranteed to Mash Your Mind', 'The Perfect Sausage', 'The Phantom X', 'Savage Shapes', and 'The 5ecret L1fe 0f c0de5'. The only ones I'm missing are: 'The Awesome Arithmetricks', 'Do You Feel Lucky?', and 'The Mean and Vulgar Bits', in addition to the puzzle book 'Professor Fiendish's Diabolical Book of Brain-Benders'. That's all I'm missing! Now, whenever my mom and I do science or math, I'm always saying things like "Hey, I read about that in Murderous Math!", or "That's in [insert book title here]!" Then I have to go get the book from my collection (which, for some strange reason I alphabetize) and show her.  tongue

So... feel free to discuss these books here!

P.S- there is also a 'Murderous Math' website, if you want to know more about these. http://www.murderousmaths.co.uk/

Yeah, kids shouldn't have to be tricked to learn. Learning is fun and everyone should want to learn by themselves already  tongue

Re: Murderous Math(s)

Ever since Horrible Histories came out a decade ago (or so), there's all of these 'gruesome' subject series.

Horrible Histories remains the best IMO.

The rest are Scary Spin-Offs (see what I did there?).

It depends. I'd like to be tricked into learning math or history rather than learning it in school with boring teachers.

I like Horrible Histories.

I loved how it balanced humour and fact to keep it's audience, I think the spin-offs are too factual or too silly, unlike HH.

Come one
learning is important but it's hardly the most fun thing I've ever done

the fun stuff I've learned has little relevance (and I annoy at least one person a day with my extensive knowledge of pointless factoids)

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

Depends on what you're learning.

For me, sciences like chemistry, physics, and astronomy or maths like calculus and geometry are fun, so I'd be glad to take extra classes for those.
