In Dystopia, you must scavenge in the wastelands of the once-prosperous town called YuTopia, (Name will change, my muse decided to fall asleep before I did) or gather materials in forests and other areas. Using the "net send" feature, it will include chat and send data to other players. We have to find a way to make it so you can send messages outside of the network you're on, so that it's a global server.
I'm thinking it'll have three modes:
Singleplayer
Local Co-Op
and
Multiplayer
All 3 are self-explanatory.
You can gather random materials from Searchable tiles, represented as a question mark on the map, or gather specific materials from Trees, shown as a lowercase letter t, or Rocks/Quarries, shown as r and Q respectively.
Other materials will be added, but this is good to start out. We'll use Dropbox and Skype to share updates and communicate in real-time. Google+ Hangouts or Google Chat is a good idea too.

What programming language do you want to use?
Your idea does sound interesting!

Batch, a pretty old programming language compatible with most Windows based computers. It was originally from DOS and is simple to use, but can get messy if not handled properly.

New Website: Dystopia Universe
Dystopia Universe is multiplayer, while Dystopia is singleplayer and possibly local.
Also, we need help on the website and with the coding.
(BTW, local isn't the same computer, it's the same network)

China kept asking google to block sites from the search and google got fed up with it so china blocked google in china.

An entire text based game
In batch?
It seems awfully ambitious, I've tried doing that before and totally failed at it. But go ahead and do it, seems like an interesting idea. I'd love to pitch in but unfortunately my memory of batch is really foggy.

How are you doing the multiplayer?
Offline
The net send function will send data from the players, like in-game name, in-game location, etc. to the host computer, who sends the map and stuff to the players. Basically it's a port-forwarded net send function sending to one computer, which sends data back to the player. PvP is next to impossible when I think about it, but if someone joins maybe we could create arenas or PvP zones at some point.
My idea for multiplayer actually helps a lot with zones. Zones are basically just one section of the map. When you reach the edge of the zone or go to a zone exit, you go to another, different, zone.
The only problem is for you to not be able to loot resources constantly from just one resource tile...

every game on one engine wouldn't be considered the same just because they have similar mechanics

I picked whatever it started with that was fitting. Lowercase t looks like a tree, Q looks like a hole in the ground (a quarry), and r is what rock starts with.
