Mushroom Patrol - The Midas Machine

http://www.mfgg.net/midasmachine/index.php?display=home

Probably the best Mario fan-game I have ever played.
It is absolutely excellent.
Completely original sprites and artwork. An entirely new music score containing remixes of classic Mario tunes plus some new songs with a true Mario feel.
Its almost like the Mario&Luigi series collided with the New Super Mario Bros. It is mainly a platformer with lots of RPG elements.
The best part is that though it is Mario, it is a new experience - not just a different version of an existing Mario game like most fan-games are. It has tons of new innovations, such as Takku, a new buddy who will help you in the levels. And, Wario and Waluigi are playable characters! Unique to this game is stats - yes, each character has different skills. And one of my favorite parts is the 'Gadd DSe' - a 3DS like device that helps the bros on their adventure.

Overall an amazing game. Shigeru Miyamoto would be very proud - it is top-notch Mario quality.

You can read the storyline on the website. You may also see videos, look at concept art, and listen to music.
Download the demo, everybody! There is a heck of a lot of content for just a demo.

Discuss this spectacular game!

Re: Mushroom Patrol - The Midas Machine

Hey, this is Chaoxys (the guy who made the graphics/designs for Midas Machine and made most of the levels). Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I'm also glad to see someone taking time to appreciate the DSe. We plan on using it more in the game and adding new features to it later on so that should be something to look forward to.

I guess I'll also mention that Takko will also play a larger role in the game, although not so much in terms of story, but I'm afraid I can't give many details right now.

Oh my gosh e_e
I was so excited when I saw that you posted!
I must say, you are a brilliant spriter. I could only dream to be as good as you!
How long have you been working on this game?
I'm excited to hear about Takko - he (she?) is a great addition!
If you don't mind me asking... Is Takko replacing Yoshi? Or will we see Yoshi later in the game?
And yes, I adore the DSe, it seems like something that Nintendo would actually do- in fact, I overall loved seeing E Gadd in this game!
Another question- will we be seeing more power ups soon? So far in the demo I've seen only the fire flower.
Final question- I saw your deviantart, have you considered (or maybe you already have) posting spriting tutorials? Your style is one I'd like to learn (spriting is one of my main hobbies but I want to get more serious about it).

Thanks for taking the time to post here! :D and sorry for getting so gushy and fanboyish :S

Heh, thanks. I like to post in topics like this from time to time to show fans that I appreciate all the support.

How long have you been working on this game?

Since 2007. Now, originally it was a completely different game. There was going to be two parts, a Mario/Luigi part made in Game Maker, and a Wario/Waluigi part made with Klik. Around 2008/2009, production slowed down to a crawl to the point where no one was working on it anymore. Around 2010 Guinea (the programmer) and I got in touch and decided to take on the project solo. It was at that point that we basically started things over. I fine tuned the style and remade nearly all of the original graphics and he fixed up the engine.

I'm excited to hear about Takko - he (she?) is a great addition!

Thanks, I had fun designing him. People wanted a new power up in the game and I remembered reading how in official Mario titles, they like to have a power up or ability that allows Mario to fall slowly, so I kept that in mind with Takko.

If you don't mind me asking... Is Takko replacing Yoshi? Or will we see Yoshi later in the game?

I'm afraid he is. Yoshi was originally going to show up in the game, but as it stands, he will be a cameo at best (sorry yoshi fans).

And yes, I adore the DSe, it seems like something that Nintendo would actually do- in fact, I overall loved seeing E Gadd in this game!

Oddly enough, E. Gadd's inclusion in the game was decided on way back in 07 with the original game, making him one of the earliest inclusions (aside from having Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi playable).

Another question- will we be seeing more power ups soon? So far in the demo I've seen only the fire flower.

Well, to be fair theres also the Starman and Takko. Aside from that we have a few situational power ups planned (like the submarine from SML). The original plan however was to keep the power ups low since the character special abilities are like their own unique power ups.

There may be some power ups for someone else aside from out mustached heroes, but I'll save that info for later.

Final question- I saw your deviantart, have you considered (or maybe you already have) posting spriting tutorials? Your style is one I'd like to learn (spriting is one of my main hobbies but I want to get more serious about it).

Hmm... You know, I do have a tutorial I made a while back. I may upload it to my deviant art, I mean, it couldn't hurt.

Thanks for taking the time to post here!  big_smile  and sorry for getting so gushy and fanboyish :S

No problem. I'm honestly finding myself surprised to see people so excited for this game. I've put a lot of time and effort into it, as has Guinea, so seeing support like this makes it feel worth it, thanks.
