Not if you're speaking with people who understand them! They're much more clarifying and wonderful in such instances (especially if you've created a keyboard layout with the symbol, for ease of access).

I occasionally accidentally replace a question mark/intonation with 'ka'.  I wonder what response I would get if I ever actually said/posted something like that.

Maybe you aren't, but I am around 15% of the time or more, so it can be helpful in those situations (and explained in those not!)

(I think because) ka, or か, is used to make questions in Japanese

The font used in the title bar as well as web address on my computer don't support the character; it's possible yours don't either.
