Importing Music Loops

I'm trying to import music loops from scratch, to my first project with no success. When I try to import these file I receive error message stating unrecognized audio file format.

Thanks for any help fixing this problem in advance.

Re: Importing Music Loops

These loops are from scratch program and are mp3 format. Files play fine outwith scratch.

Re: Importing Music Loops

Have you tried converting them to .wav files? That's another format Scratch accepts.

I'd use Audacity to do this.

Re: Importing Music Loops

Scratch doesn't support all MP3s. Sometimes it's more acceptive of WAV (though AFAIK, not OGG).

Re: Importing Music Loops

Thanks NeilWest converted with Audacity with no problems.

Do you know why these MP3 files that came with scratch don't work?

I think it maybe what Scimonster said, that Scratch doesn't always accept MP3s.

However, you will have more luck with lossless files (like .wav).

Re: Importing Music Loops

Just converted file through Audacity with no problems but sound quality doesn't play so good through scratch player. (Sounds good through stand alone gnome player)

Question is how will it sound when uploaded to scratch website? Is there any way to play original MP3?

I'm not sure why MP3s may not work for you (I don't have Linux version) but the sound will remain the same when uploaded.

Re: Importing Music Loops

Scratch converts audio to mono, and also downsamples it, which can make it sound lower quality. Sadly there is no workaround to this, and yes it will sound like that when it's online as well.

Re: Importing Music Loops

Thanks for all the help, managed to get MP3 music to play. Its now sounding 100% better. What I done was install Scratch through Wine and everything worked perfectly. Guess Lubuntu 12.10 is not the best distro for Scratch.

Problem solved.
Thanks
