Very Laggy 1.4

I have 3 scripts, one of them with about 7 blocks, one of them with about 2 blocks, and one with about 40. When I edit the one with 40 blocks, like click on a space where you put numbers and stuff in, it takes about 4 seconds to put in the blue blinking thing, then I type something in, and then 2 seconds later it types in. Also, when I drag a block from the side menu, after I pass the line in between, it freezes Scratch for about 2 seconds, then continues. And when I'm moving scripts, sometimes I try to drag them normally, and then 2 seconds later it pops up the menu that has the "Help", "Delete" and "Duplicate" buttons in it. All three things are really annoying.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

well, it's not the full 1.4, it's the release candidate. where you downloaded it, it said that you should do all your real projects on 1.3 until you have the full version.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

...it always did that for me...
Even with ten blocks it would do that. In all versions of Scratch. It really depends what computer you're using.
I, too, find the hold-mouse-as-right-click annoying.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

A bit. It's the most annoying when you try to "pick up" sprite from Stage, it won't highlight and go up, instead, a menu appears...

Lags? I have 4 loooooooooong scripts in Trapped (Those for changing rooms) and it's almost impossible to edit them without waiting 2 seconds from action to effect, or moving blocks you want edit out of the main script. And when you snap the next piece of code to the script, the stamp of the mouse stays there. There are lags, but I hope they'll fix them.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

OMG I'm having the exact same problem! Except it takes about half a minute for the blue thing to appear, and then about the same time to type in just one letter. And when I click away from doing that, I keep thinking the computers frozen, but then one minute later, it's back to normal speed. I have 2 scripts, one with about 20 blocks, one with just one. And I have Windows XP Home Edition with 256 MB of RAM. I think that the new blocks are great, but the program is just too slow. That's why I haven't been online for a few days. And I have the "two cursors" problem too, where you're moving the cursor but because of the lag, there's a stamp of where the cursor was 5 seconds ago. And then it goes away after a few seconds.

I have the exact same problems, even the cursor one! But I have 2GB RAM.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

Hm... With the letter thing, click on it once, type the text in, and wait until it shows up. It works for me...

But I do have a little lag and the cursor problem.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

It happened in every version of Scratch in the past.
Drag out your block, edit, re-insert xD

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

The final version of Scratch 1.4 fixes a problem in the 1.4rc (release candidate) that could cause Scratch to be slow or to not redraw the screen. Most of the problem reports came from Vista users, but it may have been a problem for some XP users as well.

Anyone who's had problems with Scratch 1.4rc (release candidate) should download and install the final version of Scratch 1.4. I hope that will fix the lag problems. (And, even if you aren't having any problems, if you installed Scratch 1.4rc you should upgrade to the final Scratch 1.4 since that fixes a number of bugs.)

I agree. I'm using Vista right now and the final version is NOT laggy at all.

Re: Very Laggy 1.4

I think the 1.4RC lags no matter what computer you have. It lags on my $2000 HP laptop that has the following specs: Processor: 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600
                                                   RAM: 4 Gigs!!!!!!!!
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT
