The cheaper AMD is better than the more expensive one in every test bar two on this test. How can that be right?

There's no point- shipping costs to the UK will just make it more expensive. If I go with amazon, hopefully some of it will come together and lower delivery costs.

My computer actually doesn't have any vent fans (just CPU and GPU fans), the CPU has never gotten above like 130F/55C, the GPU maxed at 165F/74C running Furmark. Also, the computer is near whisper quiet as a result. big_smile

@MrScoop: If you are insistent on getting an AMD CPU, then that setup looks fine. I think you will be rather disappointed with the performance from the CPU, but the Intel selection on the UK amazon site is really lacking...

And what is the difference between using this graphics card (the one I picked earlier) and this graphics card. Does the first one really use 500w or is it recommended that I have at least a 500w PSU? It seems rather high hmm

Also, is the PSU determined by all the components added together? I just did this test and its reccomending 650w, as opposed to the 750w I have selected. Should I downgrade to 650w or 700w, or stay at 750w?

According to the same PSU test you linked to, the first one (ATI HD8750) uses 200W, and the second one (ATI HD6870) uses 300W. Go look up their official specifications pages to be sure.

If you want to save a bit, you could find a PSU rated 650W - but nothing bad should happen if you use one with a slightly larger wattage than recommended. Plus, you'll have some energy left for any more future devices you may add. tongue

Would there be a massively noticeable difference between the two performance wise? I'm trying to cut the costs without reducing the performance too much.

If it comes with 4 fans, it's more than enough.

That wattage value is a recommended minimum capacity of the PSU for the entire system, not just the GPU. The most any 7850 can use by itself is 130W. The 6870 actually uses more, peaking at about 170W.

750W probably is overkill, but it gives you room to grow if you ever decide to upgrade a component.
