Hy,
I`m new too and i`m from Romania(to bad, no?). Thank you all for sharing your projects it help others like me ( a noob) to understend the Scrath platform and his limitations.
I made this project:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/suca/3108953
after 2 day`s of study as much as i can of your work about the sound. Too bad that i can not mimic the real line of an oscilloscope influenced by sound. And that this platform can not export .jar aplication for mobile devices.(I now that the projects can be converted in to .exe(bad background its ugly for details and yes it`s work ok) and i now that can be converted also to .jar for desktop (not mobile) (have a probleme there with me microphone, after instaling java and sockwave still not working, but still its resize image background looks very nice compare with the .exe conversion).
Me thanks for undestanding Scratch to do me project goes to :
karthikeyan with : http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/karthikeyan/1018628

Well, actually, an oscilloscope influenced by sound rather then voltage can be created, with a bit of ingenuity and creativity in mind. Also, Romania sounds like a nice place! I bet that you're having a great time over there.
Anyway just to add on, hello suca and welcome to Scratch! I wish you wonderful times here!

Well to do that, all you have to do is click the button that looks like a file! The rest should be obvious from there.
Anyhow, hello CarolLevin and welcome to Scratch! I hope that you and you're grandson will have a great and wonderful time here!

P.S. I find it cool that you're doing this.

I just joined. Heard about Scratch from the LCL class (I'm one of the 24K folks who signed up) :-) I'm in LCL 507. I'm not really much of a computer person so I'm going to have to ask my 12/y/o to mentor me. Liking what I'm seeing of other folks' projects so far.

I am a classically trained programmer of linear code who continues to produce linearly structured programs as part of my work. My environment of choice is Visual Basic for Applications within MSExcel, and working in that environment has helped me to discover the experience of coding as 'fun'. I noticed that the preface of Michael Badger's Scratch 1.4 book also contains a reference to this experience.
I have bought a Raspberry Pi which appears to have Scratch 'built in' and I also have a Nephew who seems to have 'caught the bug' for programming. My hope is that Scratch will provide us with a shared language and development platform so we can learn together.
If anyone knows of a book or video that can help me to make the 'transition' from linear, procedural programming into object and recursion based programming, then I would be grateful.

P.S. I'm just curious, what is the LCL 507 class?

Well, I do know of a website with several tutorials on it, though it's not aimed at turning someone from procedural programming to object&recursion programming, and the person does have a French accent, so look out. Also, you might want to skip the first tutorials because they're pretty much just explaining what each block does, which I guess that you already know what they do. Anyway, here it is.
Also, there is this nice book called Super Scratch Programming Adventure! which from what I've seen, has some really nice exercises and explanations in it. It's bright and has a few good comics so you could let your nephew use it as well.
Finally, if there's any questions that you have or any tutorial on a specific topic, then you could ask here in the forums and a scratcher or I will come along with that tutorial/answer. This way you can also ask questions, unlike with a book or video.
I hope that this helps! Also, hello BobFoster and welcome to Scratch! I hope that you and your nephew will have fun here!
With respects,
ErnieParke
