Hi,
I'am just wondering... Is it something random or do you sign up for it?

You have to be special
You bake a unicorn horn in elf tears until a rainbow shoots out of the pot. Next you take it and climb Everest while playing the banjo. If you can find Lightnin sitting upon the mountain 478/532 way up, he will give you a code for ONE project. You go home, choose your favorite project, and enter the code.
After you spent the next 3-24 months recubribrating (it depends on your unicorn quality), you can set out again.
Haha, kidding.
But I wish it was as easy as that.

Neither.
Curating or featuring projects is done by the current curator or a member of staff, respectively. Your project needs to have good graphics and well-planned programming to back it up. Make sure your project has this, and it has a point; a fun game, informative report, or something of the like. Don't spam links to it; advertise in Show and Tell and in your signature, and you might get curated or featured.

Hi,
Okay, thanks.

It's really the people's choice if your project gets front paged or not.
Just make something your proud of and hope the viewers come rolling in!

It could be "random."
The three "chosen" rows are not random; they're picked/filtered by people. These include the curated, featured, and Scratch Design Studio.
Curators sign up and are chosen by the Scratch Team. They can choose any project fairly (not their own, not their friends', etc.) and it'll be shown on the front page. Each curator might like differen projects. The one before me chose a lot of cool art, and I chose mostly games, so the kind of projects you'll see there depend on the current curator. Some curators ask for requests, so if you have a good, unpopular project, it's fairly easy to get curated even if it's not the best projects ever.
The featured row has projects following several criteria submitted to the Scratch Team. They choose ones they think are innovative and creative, or other things that make the project stand out. You might have a good chance here, but someone else has to suggest your project as you cannot suggest your own.
The Scratch Design Studio (SDS) isn't what most people count as a "front page" but it is still on the front page. Every so often there is a new SDS. Each one has their own theme/rule to be followed. Some of them might be holiday related, like "Halloween," or some might be random, like the "Deep Sea" one. As long as the project fits the category, SDS curators will accept it into the SDS gallery. Once there, some of them are shown on the front page. I'm not sure if its random or the most recent three, but either way, everyone can have a chance to get into this gallery.
The other three are more "random," depending on the community. What the Community is Loving/Viewing/Remixing, all are randomized from the top 20 (or maybe it's 10) of each category. After a certain number of days (I think 10, 7, and 4, respective to the order listed above) it gets removed from the list.
So it's a way of saying "A Random Three from the 20 Projects with the Most Love-its Released in the Past 10 Days" for "What the Community is Loving". The same thing applies to the other rows.
There are two more, which are mainly unique to you.
The "Newest Projects" section are 3 of the random newest projects. Refresh and you get three more. Fairly simple.
The "Friends" row is the most recent projects shared by your friends. This will be unique for everybody, unless you have the exact same friend list as someone else. I'm not sure what its called but it's related to friends.
I think this covers the entire front page. There are also some things to the side. It is possible to get a featured gallery. There are wiki links, blog links, etc. also located in the side bar.

It depends on the am mount of views, love-its, or remixes.
And it obviously depends on a specific counter to pick which row it goes into (top viewed, top loved, etc.) But you can also get curated by the curator (Pretty much a specific person picks your project and favorites it, and it gets put on the front page.) or the Scratch Team can feature it if it gets suggested a number amount of times and it fits the qualities it needs to have.
Hope this helps!

Once you become a new Scratcher, you can put it in your signature.
I think the best way that I've seen work, although not very quickly, is advertising it in someone else's signature. Some project reviewers will feature some projects in their signature if they are good. I've featured several in my signature before. It's fairly effective when I do it because I have over 5000 posts. Over a course of two weeks, it gained over 100 views. So that might work for you. Although you might not get front paged, it might get more people to know your project and your name.

You have to be talneted on scratch, I'm not famous but little famous (Sorry, if i am wrong)

For some people it's remarkably easy. I don't mean to poke at anyone, but silvershimmer 9(8 I belive) is considered an amazing artist because he/she does extremely good, stylized drawings mainly of characters from the Warrior Cats books.
Angelica 101 is very similar. They have cleverly become popular through playing to what a large group of the community like, and basically done that a lot, so everyone's heard of them at some point. If they weren't so popular, I bet that they would have been flagged for spam by now.
Is it just me or is it virtually every time I look at the front page, the top loved will be
1game or os
1piece of art/animation involving horses (my little pony) or cats
something else, most likely one of the above again
The top remixed and viewed will have
2 pieces of art or stuff like that
one game or interactive thing if you're lucky.
Sometimes I think that they should change the scratch slogan. Get rid of the 'program' bit. No one uses it any more. The imagine bit is beginning to go as well. Most of it's fan art, which is imagination, but imagining from a starting point.
I have not meant to insult or poke fingers at anyone in this post.

No, it's all art.
Do cat art and you get on the front page.
Offline
No, wes64, and atomicbawm still get frontpaged regularly.

Well, this seems a little weird. I thought the scratch team looked at new projects, judged them, and front paged them if they were good.
I have noticed that if you do a cat thing, it doesn't seem to matter how good it is, no offense to those who made them of course.
Thanks again for responding,

P.S. I got that signature!

As soon as you have a game you feel is worthy of the front page, I'll do you a favor and request it to be featured. Maybe the ST will agree and put it on the front page!

Well, it just because they are known for their art, so it gets front paged because so many people have friended them and see the art right away.

Well thank you sonicfan! You're to nice.
I am working on a project, but having trouble with it... And I can never seem to fix it(its the project in my signature).
Once I update it and FINALLY get it fixed, I will tell you about it.

Ah, I see.
Thanks again,

How do you request that?

But why did they get friended in the first place? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? It's one of those questions again, And I brought it up not through satirical philosophical irony, just pointing out the philosophy involved. I sense sarcasm. ( oh not sarcasm as well!) and no, I don't understand this post either. Well I do/did/might do on a good day (which may or may not be today).
Is there a confused emoticon you can do?

Well, i only opened this post to ask the question, not to start a pointing contest against scratch. That's the reason why i posted this thread, to ask how to get your project front paged.
