Most of the top loved games have one of the following.
-Complex scripts
-A unique idea
-Nice visuals
-A fairly long playtime
-Involves some charcter associated with popular tv shows/video games eg. Naruto, mario, pokemon
Making a game with any of the things I mentioned won't guarantee a lot of views but I think it would improve your chances.

I'm so annoyed with these being in the Tops section.
I kinda think they're dumb.

I agree with MyRedNeptune in that I do feel that popular characters are overused. When you use somebody else's character, you are using their marketing and helping to further their marketing goals. Nothing wrong with that, just be aware that that is what you are doing. They certainly are popular though.
I feel you should focus on game design: what do you like to play? What kind of things hold your attention and give you enjoyment? Is it imagining how you will look in the future (look at the popularity of the Dress-up games)? Imagining yourself as a more powerful person (most of the character based games)? I like to build things that let others be creative (drawing projects, art projects, toolkits). I've had my best success by picking classic board games and redoing them in Scratch. However, some of MY favorite projects that I (or others) have done have not gotten many views or much popular support but I still find them entertaining and am glad that they were created. I get more pleasure out of the creation process and improving my skills than from the popularity of how the projects are received.
Once you build something that you are proud of and want others to see, it is important to add it to a bunch of galleries and talk about it in the Show and Tell forum so people know it is out there. Hope some of this helps, looking forward to seeing your creations!

Well I have done a dressup game and they always seem to get lots of views and love its although sometimes it's a bit annoying when there's only dresss up type games in the top views still there you are?

I agree so much with you here!
I'd much rather see a original and well made game get top loved then a game riding off the popularity of some T.V. show or something.

Agreed. I think Pokemon Deserves to get a nno game rule here on scratch. It makes me wan't to puke!
I don't mind it when high quality projects based off of pokemon or whatever get frontpage. When a project low quality project with popular chracters gets frontpage I get upset sometimes

We try to feature projects that use original characters. It's nice to see original work from young designers. Some people argue that we should stop simply recreating the content the big media conglomerates is always trying push into our heads.

Actually, the most important is not getting views, LoveIts, and being in the Top sections or even Featured. The most important is that YOU enjoy creating your project. If YOU love your project, you don't really care if other people love it or not. Of course, I'm not talking about inappropriate games or anything.
Be creative and enjoy yourself!

I saw the pic you linked to in your sig. Is that really true or did you just edit it in a Paint Editor?
The biggest amount I had was about 200 in one day.

It is just because you do not delete them and recive them when you get a comment.
Not that it is bad or anything.

Oooohhh.... I was wondering. When I counted the comments on your projects and everything, I counted about a thousand. I was wondering. I get it now.
I delete my messages.

I like plenty of comments because I am interested to see what poeple think about my project.
What could make the visuals even better is that scratch has better quality, like adobe photoshop or bmp., Because all I can see in those terragen images that I have is ugly pixels ruining the image.

You can edit your images and rescale them to fit with Photoshop Elements or other picture editing software. This can avoid most of the "ugly pixels".
