colored variables

how do you get colored variables? i have seen at least one project with them, but they turn normal color when i download  neutral

You should not depend on them. In fact, they are removed in 2.0.

since posting, i have found out how. turn fill screen off by shift clicking the r in scratch, then alt click the variable block 5 thimes, select the red option, then select change color.
