Re: Happy Tree Friends

I'm afraid the cartoon in question isn't really okay for Scratch. Please don't start topics that advertise shows that aren't appropriate for all ages.  Closing this topic.

(For those wondering, other similar topics about this show have also been closed - remember, it never hurts to check if there's another thread about something before posting about it  wink )

Re: Happy Tree Friends

I'm reopening this for now - but I have concerns about this topic.  It's going to be hard to discuss a show like this without crossing the line and disturbing a significant portion of our community.  Please keep that in mind and post respectfully.

This is sort of why I wanted this topic closed, it encourages people to watch it for the first time, and looking at it's disturbing, adult content.

Exactly. And what exactly are you supposed to talk about if not the horrible stuff? It's not remotely the same as talking about Halo or anything like that.

Ah yes, Animeboy, we're aware of your obsession with Shugo Chara, but really that was a pretty uncalled for comparison. How would you compare a flashy girly anime with a sick Internet cartoon? I mean, really.  tongue

I thought that a couple of episodes was kind of funny, but most kids at my school think it's stupid and are all "Lolol it's soo fourth grade", which it is.

Also Animeboy how you always say that you keep getting harassed and bullied for what you like, it seems like the people at your school are complete jerks.  hmm

Yeah.... They pretty much are.

Man I'm really sorry about that. Just make sure you don't fall for their influence. Don't let them bully you and push you around, fight back! Stand up for yourself, tell them you don't care. That's what I did, I used to get teased for being short (I definitely am short for my age):

Jerk: Lolol looky here at shorty. Hey shorty, need some steroids? Look at you, with your twelve minute mile, looky at shorty.
Me: You know what, just shut up.
Jerk: Huh? What'd ya say shorty? I couldn't hear ya.
Me: I told you to SHUT THE [removed] UP. Yeah I can talk, I know you can hear me, and I can hear you just fine, so shut your trap. I don't freaking care about what you say YOU HEAR THAT. I DON'T GIVE A [removed], you moron. Haha look at me look at you, future McDonalds worker. Have fun making 50 cents an hour.

And he stopped. And I got a huge reputation for being loud after that. And a little mean. But that was fine and it died down very quickly, now I have a rep for being a kind-hearted person with a great spirit and lovable attitude, which is why I have a lot of friends.

Animeboy, to deal with the jerks in the school, you need to face them. Don't be mean to them like I did, that's counter bullying. Just say you don't care. But don't be all mean to them like I was, I was being an even bigger jerk to him than he was to me. Be assertive. You know, like in Walking Small.  tongue

another effective form of revenge is to date their sister

hand in mine into your icy blues, and then i'd say to you we could take to the highway with this trunk of ammunition too, i'd end my days with you in a hail of bullets

Re: Happy Tree Friends

I have a problem with topics like this being posted.

If you want to watch something of this nature, fine, do it. It's your choice.
But is it something worth discussing with other people? On this website in particular?
Talk about it in the comments of the videos or something.
I don't know why this was re-opened. One of the rules is 'don’t post links to or have discussions about anything disrespectful or inappropriate for an all ages audience.'
This clearly does not abide with that rule. So why, exactly, was it re-opened?
Not to mention it's pretty off topic now (the discussion about bullying and revenge).

I'm not trying to argue. I am not going to post here again, I just want to get my opinion out. My younger sister uses this website, I would not be comfortable with her viewing this. Mods, please think about what I've said.

Why don't they close every single topic about a video game rated E10+ or higher then?
Those are clearly not appropriate for all ages.
Why not close the Twilight Princess topic and the Call of Duty topic?
Why not close the Gangnam Style topic? That song has the word "sexy" in it.
The ASDFMOVIE topic could be closed- some of those have swears in them,
I could go on and on but you get the point

Not that I like HTF or anything, but just, why is this the only Not For Everyone topic that gets closed?

Because this is a show which is exclusively known for its excessive gore and violence, and there's virtually nothing else about it to talk about (it's not like the episodes have compelling stories). As I said above, it is not remotely the same as talking about a violent video game.

Ah - no disrespect, but this is a straw-man argument.  smile
Gangnam style (saying the word sexy in a video) and HTF aren't really equivalent, or so I'm told.

I think it does make sense to set limits, but where those limits get set isn't trivial. There are lots of different ways to think about these issues.

I saw this episode where the Bullwinkle-rip off character blew everyone's eyes out. It was gross and I hate the show with a deep compassion.

And reporting since HTF isn't a safe for work topic for Scratch.

...

How about that creepypasta topic, eh? It's not like we're posting links to the show...

Creepypasta isn't technically a show, and not all creepypasta is as gory and traumatizing as HTF.

While I respect my opinion, I also respect yours. I hope this flame war ends.

happy tree friends is in no way "traumatising". it's mindless gore, not psychological horror. i think you underestimate the power of the written word
creepypasta has produced some of the most disturbing works of art i have ever read. a good horror can change your worldview forever. a happy tree friends episode? to say "not so much" would be an understatement. it'll leave many with a smile on their face and a chuckle in their lungs and maybe a few naïve or very young people thinking "what a great idea"
while i have not watched an episode of this show since i was nine, i do defend the power of writing v. an overly gory cartoon

I agree.

On another note, I've watched way too many shows that feature cute, innocent, and endlessly annoying anthropomorphic animals. Seeing them be sadistically butchered is disturbingly satisfying.

Re: Happy Tree Friends

Some Scratchers and CMs felt this topic was inappropriate, so we discussed it and decided that we agreed - it's too intense for an all ages site.  We can tolerate some discussions of games / videos that older Scratchers like, but if it leads to a lot of linking / encouraging Scratchers to google stuff that's clearly not ok for kids, we may close those threads.
