Scratch 101 - How Do I Get Started?

Just saw Mitch Resnick's TED presentation and signed up for Scratch right away! Hoping to learn along with my 11-year old grandson who I gifted with a "Toon Boom" animation software for Christmas. I'm sure he'll be teaching me soon but where do I start?

Funny when I think about it now but eons ago when I was a "key puncher" (yes, I ran an obsolete machine that cut little square chunks out of IBM cards!) I remember being intrigued by the programming language and after awhile realized they were just telling the computer what to do. I thought -- hey, I could do that! This was at a time when all programmers were men. I was the first to "break the ceiling" in that EDP unit by being the first woman become a Computer Operator, a big step back then (an old Honeywell with mechanical printer at the command module, keytape and enormous disks.

It's about time I became a Scratch programmer! Thanks for your help.

Hi GrandmaKitty, a great book on learning Scratch is Super Scratch Programming Adventure from NoStarch Press! Especially for your 11-year old grandson.
On this site you can find a discountcode:

And trial-and-error also works great!  wink
