Because pretty much everywhere you look on tumblr there's always something or another poking fun at Facebook.

I'm too young.
And from what I've seen of it, the way it's set up looks confusing. Facebook is better.

tbh facebook is a lot more confusing because of endless changes to your privacy settings
tumblr does go through changes but there are no privacy settings so it cant change them so youre a lot more guarded about personal info
and facebook is billed as a way to connect with friends to purposely make you let your guard down so they can sell your information
while tumblr is just billed as a blogging service so you can choose whatever you want to do with it as it's a blank slate

Exactly.
Facebook is anything but privacy, it's like a stalker's paradise.
Tumblr you can have a screen name, you can choose to blog if you want, or just follow other blogs, in a manner similar to Twitter, but it's way more organized and the user interface is a bit slicker.

tumblr is equally overrated imo
I've tried it and found it quite boring. About as fun as blogs can get, because tumblr is just that - a glorified blog service. I do like the odd two tumblr blogs, but I subscribe to these by RSS.
No online social network shall ever beat the feeling of foruming c':
