Discuss metal/hard rock here.
I accept all discussions; why you hate it, or why you love it.
Personally, I used to hate metal bands, until I realized that not all of them were anti-Christian, swearing, drud addict, suicide supporting death metal.
I have actually found some pretty clean bands i enjoy listening to.
And remember, if you don't like them, just respect the talent. You try to play Master of Puppets memorized on the guitar right now .

most death metal isn't suicide supporting, i believe
My friend really likes metal and he calls himself a hipster for it

There is a ton of metal
Thrash Metal (fast, hard beats)
Black Metal (The moody sweary satan kind)
Groove Metal (Funkay)
Speed Metal (Fast)
Plain Metal (Pretty much cool guitar)

I don't like metal.
1. It's not a style I appreciate from a musical standpoint. It used to be much more
so when I was younger; I was listening to bands like Motley Crue around 13.
Now, my taste has changed quite a bit, all but eliminating intense music from my
intense listening regimen.
2. I don't find it as creative as other music. Often, it's nothing more to my ears than a
wall of sound, and is usually annoyingly strident.
3. I don't like a specific element of the music. Whether it's the repetitive drumming,
the distorted guitar(s), the guttural screaming of the singer, or the attempts to sing
on his part, I often don't like a band's signature sound.
4. It's too depressing. If the lyrics aren't too sad/angry, then the music behind it
is.

1. I can appreciate that.
2. Those are usually the typical death metal bands that repeat a ton of chords. "One", or "Master of Puppets" are pretty stood out.
3. I can respect that.
4. Not all. It's kinda a metal stereotype that all metal is depressing. RED and Skillet are pretty good metal bands that aren't super angry or sad.

Metal is my favorite genre of music.
People at my school think it's really weird that I listen to AC/DC or Breaking Benjamin or Skillet. They'e all, "Wow man you're such a hipster go get a taste in music" and I say "Haha better speak for yourself, go back and listen to poppy trash". My gf's fine with it, though, she isn't really into metal but she doesn't really hate it either.
Plus I hate when people stereotype metal. Kids at my school say "Dude why do you listen to that it's all about killing and Satanism and homicide", and I say "That's just a stereotype, if you really think that's what it's all about then you obviously haven't heard any and are a total idiot" and they're like "Pssh whatever".

If it is, it's none of their songs I heard.
I'm not a big fan of metal. The only thing metal on my iPod is Bon Jovi.

It's not really it's more of hard rock (they're different things).
I'd say AC/DC is metal, but most of their songs have nothing to do with depressing themes,
Disturbed, on the other hand... :P

I'm going by the iTunes genres.

I'm not particularly fond of metal in general because of the lack of musical variation, the poor compression and mastering nowadays adding onto the wallofsound sound anyways, lyrical themes, etc. Although I respect it as a genre (especially more complicated stuff like Dream Theater and Tool), I just don't particularly care for it.

Asking Alexandria isn't depressing. Most of it's actually about fun and happiness. And some other stuff..

Both "One" and "Master of Puppets" fall under #4. Skilled and RED fall under 1, 2, and three.
I think the only metal band I like is Tool.

Sure One is depressing; but how in the name of taquitos is Master Of Puppets depressing? It and One are amazing metal legends.

Isn't it about being mentally controlled?
(that was rhetorical, I know it is)
and I think you mean "metal standards"

Nah, not really. They're just hard rock, although they like to simply dub themselves "rock and roll".
