Better Looking Variables

It would be nice if the scratch team came up with a way for scratchers to make their own variables. Or maybe just make a variable that has a font that can be changed and doesn't have the orange background. That way it looks more realistic, what do you think about this idea?

not exactly the easiest for text, but yo can't expect to make "professional" things without doing any work, right?

It’s not a bad idea and I think would fit well with the low-floor, wide-walls design of scratch.  I’ve used sprites to stamp text into the background (In fact that’s all my latest project does).  It’s doable but it would be more adopted if it were a built-in function.  There is a posted idea in the Scratch Suggestions site where a Scratch admin comments “We are definitely looking into better ways to deal with text in Scratch 2.0. It will probably not be stamp text – we are considering several other alternatives (special type of sprites, special sprite costumes, etc etc).”  I hope that this is still under consideration.  I’d like for the stage monitors to be clickable, moveable, render BBCode, have the ability to be layered, resizable, have shapes that we can design, and, of course, let us set the text from within our programs.

I've updated my text adventure game.

In 1.4, you can change the variable color like this:
1. Shift/Click the R in the word Scratch at the top
2. Click "Turn Fill Screen Off"
3. Alt/Click the variable until it says "WatcherReadoutFrame"
4. Click on "Menu for Me"
5. Click "Change Color"
6. Select your color
7. To make changes permanent, Shift/Click the R and press "Turn Fill Screen On"

Enjoy!  smile
