New Graphic Novel!

I'm making my first ever graphic novel entitled The Awkward Me. The story follows an 8th grade girl (who's much like myself) and her random awkward moments. This isn't meant to be a serious cheesy drama. It's supposed to be funny, lighthearted, and also relatable. The preview project is on my other acount (RoyalWriter) so please check it out and if you've made graphic novels before could you give me some tips? I really need it!

Re: New Graphic Novel!

Quite honestly, I wouldn't read it.
Not because its you or because you're a bad writer or anything but because
the concept is pretty generic and i honestly dont think it would make a good graphic novel

Now, I think that's a little harsh.

Try checking it out first, before you say "its generic and it wouldn't make a good graphic novel"  wink

Yeah, I know it's very generic, but- I don't know. It's hard to explain, like, it has the same themes as all of the other shows and books but this is different. The characters and situations aren't what you'd expect. You'll see what I mean once I post it.

Re: New Graphic Novel!

Uhm I agree with bananaman frankly.
Although if by "things you wouldn't expect" you mean "8th grade girl in victorian society who fights pirates and lives in a submarine" then I would definitely read it, but I have a feeling this is not it. :<
alas, I encourage you to push forward while I try to find some relatable literature.

I've always thought saying teen-aimed media was relatable was an adult code that meant "deals with problems teens may or may not relate too in a patronizing and preachy way"

It's been done before, really. Lots of times.

The graphic novel "Smile" by Raina Telgemeir (who I've actually met in person btw) has a similar concept. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't say fantastic either.

I'm working on a little comic series myself, because apparently I'm really good at art, since people (especially girls) at my school are all "WOA DEWD UR SOOOO GOOOD AT DRAWWING CANN YOU DRAW SOMETHIN LEIK DAT FO MEE PLEAZZZZ". No, seriously, ten girls have crushes on me because of this.

Alex and the Ironic Gentlemen
that has some of those elements

@RoyalHi5 you said cartooncreater was honest, but i wasn't
I am legitimately trying not to be mean or condescending right now but
how is it that when i post an opinon (however slightly harsh) that is completely honest, its  not honest, but when its an opinion you like it is??

You're right, it does mean that. But that's not what this is about and even if it was, would that be bad?

I was saying YOU were being honest. Yes it was a bit harsh, but I like that, it's the truth. You weren't being mean nor were you trying to be. So as strange as it may be, I really appreciated your comment  smile
