It is my understanding open beta for Scratch 2.0 starts Jan. 28th. I have some questions, however.
1) Will I have to download a new version?
2) If not, can I upload projects from the corrent version I have downloaded?
3) Will Galeries be wiped?
4) I have heard we won't be allowed to make chat rooms.. Is that true? If so, why?
Thanks! ~Peace off

1. No, it's all online
2. Yes
3. No, they'll just be renamed to "studios"
4. That is true, due to the fact that it can be very easy to bully someone and they are difficult to moderate.

Actually, let's correct some.
1. Yes, you can get a downloadable version.
4. The ST is still thinking about it. (I think)

1. Not immediately. The downloadable version will come later.
4. They're fairly certain

There seems to be a lot of questions about the beta. Do you know if the ST or the alpha testers have created an onboarding guide for the people who will start testing it on the 28th?

Here is a sticky topic from Lightnin on the 2.0 alpha forums.

Thanks for helping to report bugs and glitches!
The first thing to do before reporting is to see if the bug is already reported! Our bug tracker is here:
http://scratchexp.media.mit.edu/
You can pop a word or two in the search, and see if an "issue" similar to yours comes up. If it's not there and there's not a thread about it in the forums, (or even if it is there, but you have something to add) make a new topic to tell us about it.
Here's a list of info that's very helpful to have in bug report post:Please be sure and include:
1. A link to the project showing the problem (or the name of the project if you don't know how to make a link)
2. Any directions we will need to see the problem. Example: Jump off the top platform and the guy freezes...
3. Which browser you are using. Example: Chrome, IE9, FireFoxIf you are reporting tons of bugs, you could save time and energy by just keeping this info in your sig, at least while we're still in testing / bug fixing mode.
Thanks for your help!

Cheese, that isn't related to my problem at all...

@ScratchLearning this isn't your thread.
@jvvg I'm also a tester, I can see what they're saying.
1. They will have a downloadable version. Lightnin said there will be one. It has been said.

If you're Digimath, then maybe this will help.

But he also said it will come out after the release.

@CheeseMunchy. Thanks for the research. Both are good to know. No, I’m not ScratchLearning.

I am ScratchLearning/HawkShadowRPGs, was logged in to the wrong account. I am still confused as to why Chat Rooms aren't allowed. Yes, they are hard to moderate, but can't users moderate them? O.O

If there's going to be a downloadable version, it's not gonna be ready yet.

You'd have to stay online 24/7 watching your chatroom.
There are other places you can use chatrooms that doesn't make scratch responsible for loss or damages done. Try there.
And next time say who you are because we don't memorize everyone's alts unless its their username with "test" after it.

Actually the question was 1. "Will I have to download..."
You don't need to so the answer is no.

why do you even care about this?
the point is that you can download it if you want but you don't need to.
not that posts can correct or reply to things but an argument needs to be created each time.

I don't know, why do you? :p
You won't even be able to get download the offline version at the beta, the offline version won't be done till some time after 2.0's full release.

I was making sure the asker didn't mistake "Yes" for "you have to download it".

They said "You COULD" also again, it was an accident, so your comment about my alts was a little rude.
Anyways, stop fighting!

Chat rooms are just way to hard to moderate. Let's say "bad word" is a bad word. A chat room could look like this:
Guy: Hey guy's
Spammer: BAD WORD
Comercial Spammer: Check out this cool site. Get half off on everything.
And, if a lot of people create a chat room, then those people won't ever get banned.
