I am new to sprite using a mac air and thus far all I can get my sprite to do is move one step and say hello. All other commands seem "stuck" or sluggish. The program is just really clumsy and choppy.

You should try restarting Scratch and/or your Mac.

I've done both but the sprite is still uncooperative :-). Perhaps I should just reinstall.
