More Memory, Means More Epicness Of Projects!

I suggest that Instead of a limit of 10MB, we should have a limit of 50MB.

Re: More Memory, Means More Epicness Of Projects!

The 10MB limit is there for a reason. This server only has so much space, and people viewing projects may be on a limited data plan. The limit allows for most projects and prevents the server from running out of space.

What about 20MB

Make it in Scratch! because it's cooler when it's made in scratch

10 MB is more than enough - if you manage to get above the limit, you're likely using too much uncompressed music.

My biggest project (The Level Game! (100 levels!)) just fits (9.79MB), even with all the music tracks compressed to Lowest, and with some images at too poor quality (well... just look at the ads). It will be hard to add more levels, but I think in 2.0 anything you draw in the editor (if you do it online) won't count to the 10MB because it won't need to be uploaded.
I would definitely appreciate a higher limit. Even just two more megabytes for experienced scratchers only would be nice.

Yes and no.

Yes: It's more than 10MB
No: People might need more Data space to upload bigger projects that contain more sprites.

Well, 10 MB is too little, 50 MB might be too much! Sever space isn't easy to come by, especially considering that Scratch is non-profit.

If anyone is wondering, the 10 MB limit was there largely because of Java restrictions. But now that we have Flash, we have an opportunity to increase the limit. We don't what that limit will be, though, that is up to debate. ^^;

actually the 10mb limit has severely hindered my rpg games. i have to messily compress the maps and use no music just to be able to squeeze under 10mb. i would advocate raising it to 15 or 20.

if server space is really that hard to come by, then i suggest making it so only certain users can upload insanely massive projects.

Then who would be the ones who can? And wouldn't it be unfair for the others who can't upload insanely massive projects?

20 MB should be more than enough if you compress.

you would just have to ask or something, get approval, or be scratcher status. with my project, i cannot trim it down because it would compromise the structural integrity of the game, and i cannot break it apart into seperate chunks and tell people to put the two chunks together because lots of users are too ignorant to even read the directions to play the game... im saying allow people to upload over 10mb of stuff when they aren't just uploading junk.

Re: More Memory, Means More Epicness Of Projects!

Well, new Scratchers most certainly won't upload 10 MB projects right away.  tongue

cheddargirl is right about the 10 MB limit being there due to the Java player's limitations... Stupid me. Scratch's servers might be able to afford pushing the limit to 15 or 20 MB - that should be enough to hold music and graphics in such huge games such as benjamin2's The Level Game in a more decent quality, at least. Most people won't reach that limit, after all - there isn't too much to worry about.

I completely change my opinion and support  tongue
