I'd say my favorite part of the book was Bilbo's "fight" with the giant spiders. It was pretty funny.
What? That's how the TFoTR went. I guess it's just Tolkein's writing style.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I really enjoyed the book when I read it as a teenager. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.
