Didn't say I was going to play japanese games. I was planning on learning japanese someday, but also it is kinda funny to not know what the heck you are doing.
Some people don't play it because it's funny, I know it's weird to a lot of people but personally I play games for fun.

One of my friends actually learned Japanese just for the sake of getting games from Japan before the US. :P

Abandonware actually doesn't apply legally.
And I use emulators mainly for translations of things that were only released in Japan; I'm not going to take the effort to
a) find & buy a Super Famicom
b) find & buy whatever game I want
c) learn JapaneseI'm the exact opposite, I am someone who would go to get an old console and an old game, because simply it just feels more rewarding.
I have an NES and Game Boy Advance (both yard sale finds), as well as something that can play SNES games. For games that I can actually get, I buy them.
But I'm referring to Japanese games. I would either have to go on eBay or to a Japanese flea market (or whatever the equivalent is) and search around for one. The system would also have to be a Super Famicom, because the Japanese cartridges are shaped differently. I guess I could just find an SNES and take the top part apart, but that sounds rather inconvenient just so I can play a game I can't read.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing.

I'm actually going to try to get a SNES, and there is a way to make a normal SNES play SFC games, but it requires modding your system, so it could be dangerous. What you have to do is rip off these plastic tabs using pliers in the game slot because SFC games won't fit otherwise.

Usually if I do use an emulator is to:
-Play old games that aren't on retail anymore, and I'm sure the company that owns them wouldn't bother taking legal action.
-Try out newer (though not so: DS, GameCube, etc) games, out of curiosity.
I don't play at all most of the time, though - I'm not a gamer or anything.

Nothing personal against you, OP, but I honestly believe that people like you get a bit too worked up over emulation of old consoles. Nintendo ain't gonna lose money if I don't buy a SNES and Super Mario World second-hand off eBay - they already sold the console and the game, they aren't producing them anymore, and therefore can't, and won't make any more profit off it. No harm will be done if I go pirate it.
Piracy is a problem, only if the pirated goods are still in production: This is the case of modern games and software.

I have:
- An NES (eBay)
- Super Nintendo (flea market)
- Game Boy Advance SP (two of them, one is originally owned, one from eBay)
- Game Boy Color (originally owned by my sister)
- Gamecube (originally owned)
I have a bunch of games on my GBA, which I've had since I was four way back in '03 (best birthday present ever). The GBA I had originally is the frontlit model (AGS-001) and the AGS-101 I obtained from eBay. I still play most GBA stuff on emulators though.
I only have a few games from SNES, which are stuff like Star Fox, Mortal Kombat II, F-Zero.
I only have one game for NES (Contra).
