Why exactly is minimodding bad?

Not exactly sure, but I know not to do it.   tongue   The ST told me so, so I took their word.   tongue

Re: Why exactly is minimodding bad?

Where did the ST say that?
As long as you report it, saying stuff like "Please don't be rude" as fine.

I think the general rule of thumb is that if you're being constructive, it's OK to minimod, but if you're just minimodding for the sake of it, then it's different.

Saying stuff like "Please don't be rude like that" is fine, of course.
But I guess they generally don't want you to sound "too moddy", because sometimes what you could say is wrong and you could misdirect scratchers. Plus, I consider it rude, because you're doing the moderator's jobs for them.

^This post is a pretty good way to sum it up the issue. Moderators have been at it for a while, and are more familiar with how an issue should be handled. Minimodding presents problems because the minimodder may be incorrect, which only confuses others (something that I find happens quite a bit).

Another thing I'd like to add is that minimodding can come off as being rather bossy to the Scratcher you are trying to minimod, especially if the minimod comment contributes nothing to the conversation. An example: Try to imagine a New Scratcher who is new to Scratch and accidentally posts a "Help With Scripts" thread in a "Questions About Scratch" section, only to find a "This is questions about scripts, please post it in the 'Help With Scripts' section, not here." The comment is is neither helpful nor welcoming to the New Scratcher, not to mention off-topic.

It's usually just best to leave the moderating to, well, the moderators. It's why they are there, after all. No need to strain yourself trying to minimod.  wink
