no matter what the subject of your post is, it is always on topic because its a piece of writing. it is something you read, therefore it fits the Things I'm Reading and Playing forum
The forum's description is regarding the topics topic, not the topics themselves.

Okay, I have something to ask.
Why is the Roblox Topic in here? Wouldn't it fit in MaC, like the Minecraft topic? In both games, people create things.

I have a question about the all-ages thing.
Over the last couple of decades there's been a huge change in the kind of language and themes considered appropriate in childrens' media. Conversations between children are portrayed using the language that children actually use among themselves (as opposed to the language they use when speaking with adults ).
Here in the Scratch fora I've seen references to The Simpsons, which isn't exactly G-rated. (The references here have been G-rated, but if I'm reading the policy correctly, one isn't allowed to discuss books or movies whose language wouldn't be allowed here, even if the discussion itself is okay.)
I recently read a novel that I think might be of interest to Scratchers (it largely revolves around a Second-Life-ish virtual world), but it does have some four-letter words. In movie terms (and there's a movie in the works) it should easily make PG-13, but the plot and themes are appropriate for all ages, at least as much as the Saturday morning cartoons.
So, given that we're now allowed to talk about politics, what about loosening the rules to allow all-ages discussion of young adult literature?
EDIT: I just noticed this thread so maybe I should stop worrying and just start my thread.

you can make topics as long as you dont actually say anything
homestuck, for example, is full of swearing left and right, however the topic has gone as of yet untouched by moderators

In the topic "Just a question," which was closed earlier, Paddle2See mentioned this: "Also, please remember that this forum is for discussing "Things you are reading..." so you should actually have a source that you are discussing." Well, the legend of Atlantis is derived from a poem (or something of the sort) by Plato. So surely that fits perfectly fine. Atlantis is a civilization talked about in an ancient piece of writing, and since the rules of the forum don't state that it has to be a modern piece of writing, that fits perfectly, does it not?

Hey, that was my topic!
And the only reason it was really closed was because it wandered into Spam-world. It turned into a huge conversation about dolphins.

Yeah, I know, but Paddle2See added in his closing post about including a source to make it something we're actually reading, like he does every now and then when a topic gets closed. So I was pointing out the the legend of Atlantis comes from a written work, so that should automatically apply.

But not everyone knows that, so it'd probably have to be mentioned/linked to.

Uh, 2 questions.
1. Why was the "Happy Tree Friends" thread closed? Threads about such things as Happy Wheels, Call of Duty and stuff are allowed to go through, despite the violent content in those.
2. If a thread about a topic existed, but was closed automatically, should you requsest that topic should be reopened, or just make a new one?

I agree - that might have been a bit over zealous. I'll reopen it. However, please make sure that the conversation itself remains appropriate for all ages.

It would probably best to ask that it be reopened, just so that we don't end up with multiple topics about the same thing
