A good rule of thumb that I developed in Flash and I seem to do the same in Scratch: Always save before compiling and running (in this case, always save before pressing the green flag).

but if you edited a script massively, changing lots of things and deleting scripts and then the script doesn't work then you've lost that script. i just save every 5 minutes or so if it's a big project, less often if it's a smaller project.

Everyone has their own way of saving projects. For me, I save my project to two locations every ten minutes or so, so if I lose one to a bad header error, the copy is still usable.

I save every script i make (like every 2 minutes) because my area keeps blacking out!
