Based off of recently or most visited tags, a section could appear on the front page suggesting a few projects. Therefore, the visitor gets something they like, and the creator gets some views. Everyone is happy.
The reason behind this suggestion is a solution to people not getting enough views on their projects.

How would the site determine which projects you may like more?

Reads tags.
There are at least a million projects with "game" or something common like that. It's too vague so that every project with that kind would be close to my idea of "game".
and there are other games that have inappropriately placed tags
and others without any at all

I'd love something like YouTube, which shows you a list of related videos (in this case, projects) somewhere in the page.
"Game" may be too vague of a tag, of course, but then this should at least be a reason for people to start tagging their projects right. About misplaced tags, there's not much that can be done about it.

there will be "related projects" to each project, and you can also search by relevance.
