"Locked Out of Heaven" (The M Machine Remix) // Bruno Mars
I don't always listen to Bruno Mars, but when I do, it's The M Machine's remix.

Today I decided to listen to Disc 1 of Todd Rundgren's "Something/Anything?". I had it in my collection for a while but I never really thought about listening to it until I noticed that Allmusic gave it 5 stars and Robert Christgau gave it an A-. So, I popped in the record to see what it was all about, and in the end, I wound up thoroughly impressed.
It starts off like a standard folk-rock album circa 1972, with some pristine songwriting on "I Saw the Light", "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference", and "Cold Morning Light". Then around the middle, "Intro/Breathless" comes in, and that's when the album starts getting a bit weirder. The "Intro" is a one-minute spoken word segment, where Todd invites the listener to take any record, and spot all the technical faults (hissing, humming, popping), and whoever finds the most errors "wins the game". As he explains the game, Todd's words "But don't--" are cut off as the album flows into the quirky instrumental "Breathless".
From there on, the songs are treated with a sense of eccentricity, such as on the haunting "The Night the Carousel Burnt Down", which is backed witth a demented carnival soundscape, "Song of the Viking", a sea shanty in the form of a folk rock tune, and the disorienting closer, "I Went to the Mirror".
Overall, it's an immensely enjoyable experience that stretches beyond the usual 70's pop-rock traditions.
Tomorrow, I shall listen to Disc 2, and I'll tell you my thoughts on that.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying "Anthemic". It's really quite catchy, the lyrics are very well-done, and I really like the home-made quality of it all.
Are you guys planning a full-length album in the future?

"Seven Nation Army" // The White Stripes
...
I'm gonna fight 'em all
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back.
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back.
And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget.
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette.
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone.
Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell.
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell.
And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you.
And that aint what you want to hear
But thats what I'll do.
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home.
I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera for evermore.
I'm gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore.
And I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding
Right before the lord.
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will sing no more.
And the stains coming from my blood
Tell me go back home.
