Don't diss the lawnmower, man.

It takes a lot of patience and creativity to come up with 493 different pokemon, or over 500 if you count different forms.

well.. it's hard to remember if you don't have many pokemon games and magazines, but if you own atleast one game for every generation, the name just comes out once you see the pokemon, or if you hear the name you know exacally what pokemon the person is talking about. So, basically, if you've done that you have memorized the names.

Also, I agree. I don't think anyone can name all the pokemon in one go.

Perhaps I can......  The names just all stick in your head after a while so that's how I got it.
