least: fps, mmorpg

Guys I hate most FPS but I'm sorry, TF2 is just amazing.

Favorite: None.

Least favorite: Adventure, some puzzle games, any game that requires me to use a gun.

Reasons for least favorites: Adventure generally lacks the adventure part, sticking in their ridiculous Moon Logic Puzzles and Solve the Soup Cans puzzles instead. Puzzle games also have boring types of puzzles. Less of the "moon logic" is present, but they are boring nonetheless. For shooters, I have the same reasons as everyone else, with the additional reason of just hating guns altogether. For some reason, I don't have this problem with bows (I'm not so sure about crossbows) or thrown weapons, but guns feel awkward and wrong.

yes its mostly completely mindless murder but you know what sometimes its fun to sit back and shoot things on a screen for a while

Even then, it's not always mindless murder. Take Bioshock, for example.

if you program ai and design levels well enough you can get people to actually think about how theyre gonna beat the game

I actually enjoy playing Halo too when I go to friends' houses.

Sheesh, calm down. I get it, OK? I don't want to have this topic closed. I have opinions, you have opinions, and that farmer down the road has opinions. They're all different, but as you stated, these are just games, and it's probably best to not get so worked up over them.

Yes, everybody has opinions. That doesn't mean that they are not misinformed (a la disliking a genre of video games that you have never played yourself, which would be like if I said electronic music was terrible and I hadn't listened to anything from the genre). It also doesn't mean that they are, as I said, sacred and can never be challenged. I'm not insulting you as a person for your opinion, nor jumping to illogical conclusions based on it. I am just debating the opinion. This isn't so harmful, and people shouldn't be so offended by something so arbitrary.

there doesn't need to be a rebuttal: he understands your point, he just chooses his own opinion. debating the opinion is not necessary when it is irrelevant and personal.

It would have been one thing if he had said: "I do not like the FPS genre of video games because it doesn't appeal to my taste", but he made an incorrect and ridiculous generalization as well as an admission that he has never played what he has criticized himself.

If you must develop an opinion about something it should be based off actual experience with what's being talked about, not just pulling it out of your but. For example, I dislike country music. It is not the type of music I enjoy. That's all well and good. I will not sah that all country music is like this or that or all country music consists of nothing but this or that or other ridiculous generalizations. It's also worth mentioning that I've actually listened to a fair deal of country music, so I developed this opinion through experience not just thin air.

And also, I'm not worked up. I'm not angry about anything or at anyone. I'm just having a simple debate.

This topic is about video game genres. This debate is about video game genres. It's not like were arguing about how the fruit flies in Gallapogos Islands fly, this is a debate about something that is relevant to the topic.

I do realize that I made a foolish statement saying that I don't like something I've never tried. ...Actually, it was just sort of a poor choice of words. I really only meant that I don't like games filled to the brim with mindless violence. I also understand that no opinion will be held sacred. I have a bad habit of treating my own opinion as much better than others. And that doesn't mean that all opinions are better than mine; nay, nothing could be further from the truth. But mine isn't perfect either and I apologize for this- Wait, a debate, you say? I thought this was an argument. XD

Well, I appreciate owning you owning up to your mistakes. I have that same problem sometimes. A debate and argument are very similar terms, but argument brings up more negative connotations, so I decided to use debate. The same way "slim" and "scrawny" work; they mean similar things but one brings up more negative connotations.
